    Unable to telnet & TivoWeb

    Hi all,

My Tivo has recently developed some new tempremental tricks. I am now unable to acess my Tivo via Telnet or TivoWeb.

My tivo is still making daily calls via internet, so the internet & network connections are fine. I'm hoping a reimage is not called for.

Anyone with any ideas to fix this problem?

    Cheers

I too am unable to telnet

    I have a similar problem.

After installing Wingate on my PC, and connecting to the TiVo via a
serial cable, I was able to telnet to the TiVo. It was then set up to use
    the internal modem for connections.
I changed the settings back to the defaults (dial prefix 401 and no
dial up number, username and password).
Now, I cannot telnet to my TiVo any more (I am not sure it is related
to the changes I made, as Lagomatic did not change anything).
I was able to run Guided Setup, so the TiVo can connect to the outside
world, but when I telnet I get "connection refused". I am using the Putty
program (on a Win XP machine).
Another problem is that the TiVo does not always connect to the PC
when it boots (about 50% of the times). I am not sure why. Is there a
way to initiate the connection from the PC?

    Thanks,

    Gideon.

    Hi John & Gideon,

John have you tried rebooting by cycling the power?

If that doesn't work then you can use a serial cable (always handy to have around for this sort of situation) to get to the "command prompt":

Gideon your dial prefix needs to be set to ,#401 . The , and # are significant. You could use the above technique to connect and change it.

    Cheers, Dave.

    Hyperterminal does not work

    Thanks Dave,

I have just discovered that TivOWeb works for me.
I also discovered that PuTTY works if I chose the telnet
protocol rather than the SSH default. I am not sure how it
    was set in the past.
I cannot get the Hyperterminal to work. I always get
the message "Another program is using the selected telephony
    device".

    Thanks,

    Gideon.

    unable to telnet or tivoweb

I have found that if you are using XP system and tivo, web that occasionally XP will alter the ip address of tivo thereby making the last one you used invalid

at the command prompt "ping 192.168.0.255" for the new address.
