What terminal program are you using?
dont even try telnetting using windows telnet, it doesn't work properly.
Do a google search for 'putty', download and install.
Newly imaged (latest image), newly bought tivo with a turbonet card. All setup ran OK (except for my IR codes - but thats another issue), but I cannot telnet to the tivo.
I know it's IP address, i.e. I can see the DHCP lease on my DHCP server, it's 192.168.0.3. I can ping the tivo, ftp into it, connect to the web page on it, I just can't telnet to it. Immediately when I telnet the session drops. I've tried this from multiple computers on my network.
I haven't used the serial port to connect to it yet (gotta setup a computer close enough to the tivo before I can do this), but I would have thought that telnet would be working out of the box?? It's not running in Maintenance mode anymore... i.e. I waited about 10 hours after final setup & then rebooted.
Am I missing something?

Well I'll give putty a go tonight... I've used it many times before.
But I know of no reason why windows telnet shouldn't at least establish the connection, even if my emulation then causes some problems. Is there known problems between the windows telnet and the tivo?
Well I was skeptical, but you were spot on. i.e. Putty works where windows telnet doesn't.
Thanks!
