Thread: S03 error on setup

    S03 error on setup

Have tried multiple times to setup a TiVo that's been modified, only to get an S03 error when connecting to the TiVo service to get the EPG data
I'm in NZ and have done a guided setup that fails every time
Have changed the CMOS battery as I have read that can cause issues, but it's still there

    Anyone have any ideas??

    Cheers!

I believe S03 usually indicates corruption of a file system on the hard drive. (I'm assuming you just have one internal hard drive, let us know if you have an external hard drive etc)
Is it easy to restore the hard drive in the tivo from a different backup image or something?
Or use kickstart code 57 when restarting the tivo?

    Hi,

Yes, just the 320Gb internal drive
Had it modded for me, so I don't have an image to restore from
Whats the code 57 - how do I use that?

    Thanks in advance

Kickstart diagnostic codes are invoked as follows:

    1. Turn off then back on the TiVo. As the TiVo restarts, the green LED light on the front panel will be lit.

    2. As soon as it blinks, immediately (within 2 seconds) press and hold down the PAUSE button on the remote.

    3. Within a few moments, the yellow and red LED lights will turn on. (If you are unable to catch the timing, you may also hold the PAUSE button down continuously during the restart until the yellow and red LEDs come on.)

    4. When the yellow and red LEDs come on, release the PAUSE button and then press the one or two digits of the kickstart code from the list below on the remote control. (You will have approximately 10 seconds to do this.)

Before you try to do the kickstart 57 (if you haven't already), if this is a tivo which you have only started using recently, then you should have a read through
    http://hd.oztivo.net/twiki/bin/view/...oKeepUsingTiVo
particularly step 6 ("clear program information & to do list"), which should be done once per tivo when it is first being set up to use oztivo.

If the aove wasn't relevant or didn't fix your problem, then read on.

Expect the kickstart 57 to run for a few hours. It will do a check of the media file system (MFS) on the hard drive, which takes a while (depending on the capacity of your hard drive).
There are some more details at:

Hmm, it might be worth checking out
    https://www.tivocommunity.com/commun...-error.528898/
which is talking about a S03 error which seems not related to hard drive / mfs problems.

Kickstart 57 fixed it on both TiVo's
Thanks for the info guys, really appreciate it!
