Can Tivo Be Used as a Media Centre?

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to read my post - I am a week old Tivo owner and quite enjoy its features so far. However, I want to be able to stream downloaded avi's or mkv's from my home local network thru the Tivo making it somewhat of a media centre without the help of windows MCE. I currently have a mediagate that can do the job but it does not do it in HD.

So can anyone tell me anything else other than "this may be one of the exciting new features to be released in early 2009" - this was the response from the Tivo website.
