How to use previously formatted HDD with winmfs

I am trying to make a backup of my TiVo disk using winmfs. The destination disk I want to use was previously formatted for Windows. Winmfs did not recognize it. So I used Disk Management to "remove" the drive, so it is now shown as not initialized and has no drive letter, but it is still not recognized by winmfs.

Can someone please tell me what I need to do to make this disk suitable for winmfs.

Are you running winmfs as an administrator? (Right mouse click run as administrator)

If not that’s the usual problem for not seeing a hard disk blank or not.

Yes, I always run it as administrator.

Just to advise that the problem has been solved.

I received a recommendation to download WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics. When I ran this, it recognized my target drive, and I was able to run Erase from within the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics suite of programs. This did the trick, and after that the drive was recognized by winmfs, and I was able to run mfscopy successfully.
