Networking Noob please help.

Hi all,

I seriously can't find this basic information anywhere and don't understand.

Simply put, how do I connect my tivo to my pc?

I have both an ethernet cable and a crossover cable. I thought it would be as simple as plugging one of these into my tivo directly into my pc. Presently I update my tivo by just plugging it directly into the modem with an ethernet cable.

The HNP cannot pick up my tivo.

Do I need a router? I don't really want to do this wirelessly.

If I need a router, what sort do I need? What features must it have. I had a quick look at the routers on gamedude.com.au and there's so many different types.

Get a router. All routers are OK, but I personally use Dlink and have had no issues. You will also need the home networking package, not just for the software, but for your MAK key to actually access your tivo. After that, you should be good to go.
