    PTV300 Question

    Hi all,
Just picked up a Phillips PTV300 from eBay. was pretty wrapped. Only thing im confused about is... I am trying to connect the aerial to the box which is a coaxial plug,

but the box doesnt have the plug for it?? It only has a heap of AV input/outputs and two "cable" like connections labelled RF in and RF out

Am i missing a part for it or something? Searched high and low for a manual for this unit but all end up going into dead links. Even tried the TiVo "generic" setup trouble shooting page and no luck

    Any help would be appreciated!!

    Cheers
    Adam

I presume that you are in Australia and this is where you purchased the TiVo.
The tuner in the unit you show is an American NSTC type. Your TiVo has probably been used in conjunction with a settop box or satellite tuner.
If you go to here http://www.oztivo.net/twiki/bin/view and do a bit of reading all will be made clear. Note the PTV300 is a Sreies 1 not the TiVo HD digital tuner model from retail outlets in Australia. In many ways a series 1 is a more flexible device!

I note this TiVo has the two extra RCA sockets added above the factory "AUDIO" left and right sockets. That means it has the "2nd audio modification" to allow two set top box inputs.

While in days gone by you could have had the NTSC tuner replaced with a PAL type tuner it is all for the history books now that the tuner conversion is analogue signal only, not digital. The old Series 1 cannot do digital unless you add an external set top box.

While my website still has all the old information on what the tuner modification looked like and instructions on how to do it, like I said it is a moot point now and I even say that on the website.

Just like Islander mentioned, this is NOT a Series 3 or TiVoHD and requires a fair bit of knowledge to get it operational.

The US Series 1 TiVo (Philips PTV and Sony SVR) have an NTSC tuner. You will have to do a PAL-mod on it, or use a Set-Top-Box plugged in to the AV inputs and controlled by the TiVo by IR.
If you are in Christchurch I can help you with this.

From the photo, it looks like your unit has had a dual-input mod allowing two STBs to be plugged in (it will only record from one at a time), and a network card.
