Unhappy Tivo can't connect to outside world

I installed the 1.3 image on a brand new Tivo from the UK. My problem is, it still wants to connect to the outside world by phoneline. I tried the ,#401 trick, but it doesn't seem to connect to the Turbonet card.
I don't want my Tivo to dial in in the Netherlands! I'm planning on using the WkTivoGuide software to make my own guides for Holland and just to get the thing to work with networking et.al.

Can anyone point me to a troubleshooting website for Tivo owners with a non-working network card, but without a dial up service in their country for their first connection?

I think you really need to ask this question on the mailing list, as that's where Ed and the others who developed the emulator monitor.

I wonder if the problem is that the 1.3 image is for use with a US machine, and needs modifications to work with a UK box.

OK, I will subscribe myself to the mailing list. I thought the forum was for technical questions.

    Not the right image

The 1.3 image is for US models only not the Thompson units from the UK.

There were older images floating around that were pre-emulator (obviously you do not really need the emulator anyway) i think the latest was 2.5

    regards

Whilst this is true to a certain extent, the brains still reside on the mailing list.

Also you might want to see if your tivo has an sysinit.rc.turbonet as you might need to link it in. I vaguely remember someone saying something about moving a file around so that it picks up the turbonet card. It was that, or having a specialist line in the startup using `Bootpage`. Do a quick search, and I'm sure you will be able to find something.

You need to add "netcard=turbonet" to the bootpage parameter string. Instructions for doing something very similar are here:

    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to mount the hard drive on a linuxbox and perform the changes.

There is a new release of the UK TIVO image

Ed has just announced a 1.3 emulator image of OZTIVO for UK models

It can be downloaded from the images area on Minnie:
