  1. #1

    Question AirNet - Which Cardbus?

    Hello everybody,

I opted for the Airnet network option. Howeverf I am having difficulty finding a pcmcia card that works with the TiVo. Before any one gives me the PRISM chipset reply, I know that I need a a card with a PRISM chipset. The question is WHICH ONE and WHERE DO I GET IT, in Australia.

    Thanks

    Simon

    An old-ish list

    Hi Simon,

After a bit of a look around tivocommunity.com I found this thread...

    http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb...hreadid=133910

    ...which links to this page:

    http://www.mikrotik.com/Documentatio...html#ht1964083

Look for the "Intersil Prism II" heading. Note that the page is dated September 2003.

    Cheers, Dave.

    AirNet

    Hi thanks for the reply.

I am currently borrowing a Netgear MA701 which works beautifully. But can I find one....or any new PCMCIA card that has the prism chipset, thats the problem. This tivo community board suggests that TiVo does not support cardbus, for any one reading this, it does. Cardbus is just another name for the AirNet Adaptor. Anyway, If anyone has a PRISM chipset PCMCIA card they want to sell let me know.

    Thanks

    Simon

    If the 701 works

Why not just get your friend a replacement card such as a 54G compatible card - then you are both happy.

Unless of course he/she needs it for their TIVO !!

    Simon,

A good place to buy `old' Prism based cards is ebay.com.au.....If you look at the wireless cards available on ebay, and then check the list, you should be able to get a card quite cheaply...I bought a Dlink DWL 650 for $30, which works very well.

For my second Airnet Tivo, I will be using a 200mw Senao card...this is a modern card which uses the Prism chipset, and supposedly gives superior performance..

    Cheers,

    Chris
