    More EPG issues

    I have five TiVos running, three have software version 11.3b8, two have 11.3b10. All of the b8 units run out of guide data after this Friday. Sometimes they're reporting "Error S03" after connecting (but sometimes it says it was successful; it just doesn't get any data) ... Google suggests that's indicative of a failing hard drive, but three suddenly failing at the same time, and all the ones with b8 software, seems unlikely. Has something changed on the "mothership" side that might cause this? (PS: I've tried rebooting one of them, but it didn't help. I'm not sure whether it's safe to follow the instructions about doing the guided setup -- does that work, or leave me with a dead TiVo?)

    Edit: ... and, they're back in working order now, just missing Saturday. Thanks, if someone fixed it....

    If they are b8 software units ensure that when you start them up you get white text on the "Almost there" screen saying "Loading Ticketmaster". If you get red text saying "not loading ticketmaster" it means at some point they have not had a clean shutdown and this will cause a b8 unit to not get guide data.

    The official word from the software guys is that a "Restart TiVo" from the settings menu should fix a b8 saying "not loading ticketmaster". Don't simply pull the power plug as that is not a clean shutdown.

    The above is ONLY for a 11.3b8 software unit. 11.3b10, which are the majority of TiVos that got the last version of the software update before TiVo switched off their server on November 15 2017, does not require Ticketmaster and therefore does not have this issue.

    Interesting... Does anyone know what ticketmaster does? Presumably it was disabled in the update just before the official TiVo shutdown.

    Ticketmaster was written by OzTiVo and required by 11.3b8 software to stop the "tickets" that a TiVo uses expiring which would put it in a very restrictive mode.

    TiVo as a goodwill gesture removed expiring tickets in 11.3b10 so that a non modded TiVo would continue to operate without the official TiVo server.

    The software patcher used in the modding process determines whether a TiVo is 11.3b8 or 11.3b10 and applies Ticketmaster accordingly.
