    Wireless Question

Hello everyone. Just bought a Tivo, used one when I was living in the states and I'm very happy to know I can use one here (once I get installed).

I am getting Foxtel Digital Cable and Cable broadband.

I have a netgear router, a G4, a new PC and an airport base station.

Currently, I plug my modem into the router....run a line to the PC, one for my mac (when its on my desk) and one to the airport for when I want wireless.

    I have a few questions

    1) Is there a way for me to have my Tivo access the network by picking up the Airport signal or am I going to have to run a ridiculous amount of Ethernet cable from the office to the lounge room? Are there any issues with using an Apple Airport?

    2) My foxtel gets hooked up the 1st of September yet noticed the Melbourne guided set up doesn't change over for another 3 weeks. Will this be automatic or will I be doing 2 set ups on 1 month?

    3) I still have to purchase some hardware (power cables, hard drives and potentially some wireless stuff or a lot of ethernet cable) I did purchase from esystems 2 tivos with turbonet cards and extra brackets. Can anyone make a reccomendation on where to get a couple of 200 GB (brand?) hard drives to make my tivo a gigantic library?

    4) I'm potentially interested in selling the extra one at the cost I paid for it (or trade unnecessary parts). Is there a forum thread or place to do this?

    5) I will want the ability to hook up to my G4 so I can burn DVD's of data for friends. What are my options for this?

I haven't had the opportunity to set it up yet as foxtel is about to be installed. Hopefully with these questions answered I won't have installation issues and I'll once again be a happy Tivo User.

    Thank you in advance!

    hi dmec and welcome

i have a similar setup. all you need is a wireless bridge for your tivo.

tivo ethernet port > short ethernet cable > wireless bridge

here's a link to the netgear one im using right now..

i believe you'll have to run guided set-up again ( im in perth so i haven't been following the dates for melbourne )

not living in melbourne i couldn't say. but im using seagate hard drives through out my network and they seem reliable and quiet. any computer shop should be able to help you.

no there's no forum or place as such. keep in mind tivo in australia is a hobby and only supported by the hard work of enthusiasts. selling a modded tivo with the oztivo image etc. on ebay et al isn't a good idea. your best bet is the oztivo mailing list, read this

    Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions.....I've also just come across this...

I wonder if that would work instead? Research so far says NO as it is just a WAN port and not a bridge.

I have only just recently put up a forums dedicated to the buy/sell of all things tivo. The TiVo Trading Post forum should see you on your way... Please remember to read the rules first.
