    Complete newbie question

    Hi all,

Well I'm looking at getting a TiVo, but there is one thing holding me back, which I'm hoping someone can clarify. I have a Digital Set Top Box (Some cheapo Strong one that came with the TV). If I was to buy a TiVo from the states, would I need to peform the PAL mod to get it to work on my TV, or would the digital box do all the nessacary stuff for me?

    Thanks heaps people.

    Hi there.

When you say "PAL mod" I assume you mean get the internal tuner changed. The answer is no. Many people do run their USA purchased TiVo with a digital set-top box like you wish.

If however you mean by "PAL mod" that you think the TiVo only does NTSC through the RCA connectors then this is true if it comes with a hard disk fitted loaded up with a USA operating system (image). For use in Australia you are going to ditch this image anyway and load up the Australian (OzTiVo) Guided Setup image which turns your TiVo into a fully PAL record and playback device.

So the short answer is to buy one. It will work with your tuner

    PALmod

    Hi Darren,
Can I use palmod.o file to change NTSC in TiVo US software 3.0 to PAL mode.
I mean that we can change tuner and A/V input
I'm using the Series 1 Philip.
    Thanks for your help
