    Let movies be movies...

Any chance the all contet on the sky movie channels 1, 2, MGM, TCM could be tagged as movies in the guide data.

When you select recording by ...

search by title -> movies -> any cat -> A

    The list is quite compact

umm not quite sure how to flag them as movies, will ask Jaidev..

certainly if its just a matter of adding a flag to the records then yeah it's pretty trivial..

Dont know didly about the tivo guide data internals truth be told..

Number6 has this down in this thread in the dev forum.

Which raises an interesting point in that more than just moves could be tagged out.. infact looking at these top level genres much more could be tagged

    1000 = Interests, 1001 = Children, 1002 = Comedy, 1003 = Daytime, 1004 = Documentary, 1005 = Drama, 1006 = Movies, 1007 = News and Business, 1008 = Science and Nature, 1009 = Sports, 1010 = Talk Shows, 1011 = Action Adventure, 1012 = Educational, 1013 = Mystery and Suspense, 1014 = Sci-Fi and Fantasy, 1016 = Arts

Could certainly tag programmes on nick and cartoons as 1001, and could get awa with tagging sky news programmes as 1007, sky spots channels 1009, and of course stuff on movies channels.

Uhmm it's genre categories I think... all comes down to wktivoguide's programs file...

This file holds the known program names and a list of genre identifiers separated by commas. The two columns are tab-separated. You should use at least one broad category name, but you can use any of the names given in the genretypes file.

It's the broad category which is used to flag movies I guess,
    i.e. Austin Powers Movie,Comedy,Adult

there is also a stationgenre file, which I guess will set the broad category for that station itself.

The data doesn't have the correct genre, so it's a matter of adding it later, which is a bitch, hence why Tim had a webpage dedicated for people to manually add it to programs in a database which we would then merge to the current programs file, worked once then no one did it.

So to answer your question, for the Sky movies channels maybe I could play with the stationgenre file and see what we get.
But for movies on TV1,2,3 etc , only if it's in the programs file with the 'movie' broadcategory.

This is from the source code of wktivoguide....

    Genre Numbers
    -------------

Genre numbers are employed by the TiVo to group programs into groups of all shows with similar content and to make recommendations for shows to record, based on historical preferences exhibited by the user.

The lower numbered genres (1-999) are used to make recommendations for shows to record. If a trend is detected in the shows watched by a user which indicates their interest in a particular genre, other shows of the same genre will be automatically recorded. This method is applied elsewhere too (e.g. the same sort of recommended show recording is done for actors).

The genres numbered above 1000 are used to group programs into broad groups of shows with similar content. These 16 genres appear on the TiVo selection lists for choose by name, browse by channel and browse by time. Their use there is to reduce the list of programs to choose from before the user's further selection criteria is applied. Thus, selecting "movies" on the list for choose by name will only allow selection from a list of programs that have the "movie group" genre as one of their properties.
So from this, if the stationgenre file is updated then it should 'let movies be movies'. Well at least from the point of view of the origin of this thread using the tivo search by movies function... The genre codes are consistent with the genretypes file used in wktivoguide.
