What happened to Tivo's phone support service?

Not only am I having continious problems with my Tivo, I now find I can't even call them.

I have to email them, what a joke.

Getting them to return a call in the past was near impossible, what hope is there for an email.

I think that's the final straw for me, can anybody recommend an alternative to the Tivo?

They discontinued Phone support at the Beginning of December, at the same time some staff were let go.
