    New router - daily call failing

    I installed a new router yesterday. I made sure it was using the same subnet as the previous one (subnet 0) and put the Tivo Series 1 in the DNS with a fixed address (its current one of 192.168.0.3)

    The series 1 is connected to the router via Ethernet, I have not rebooted the TiVo.

    I can connect to it via telnet to its IP address, but it cannot make a daily call.

    It can ping the router, and the resolv.conf file has already been automatically updated with the router's name and IP address (different from the old one)

    But the daily call is failing with Service unavailable.

    What else should I check?

    Thanks

    Kerry

    When you say new router does that also include new ISP? Do you mean you added a fixed DHCP entry for the TiVo? You shouldn't need to put the router's name anywhere on the TiVo. You will need to change the default gateway entry on the TiVo if your new router has a different address, and you are not using DHCP on the TiVo.

    Thanks for the reply.

    I have the same ISP, I just replaced my router.

    I noticed when I telneted to the TiVo (which has not yet been rebooted since the router was replaced) that the resolv.conf file has the IP address of the new router, not the old router (the IP address of the router has changed from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.0.254). I did not edit this file, so it was done by the TiVo. It is thus aware of the new router's IP address, but the daily call is failing nonetheless.

    I did run nic_config_tivo to check the MAC address.

    I am using the 1.6 image, but have the IP address set to static (from memory).

    The simplist thing may be to set the IP address on the TiVo to DHCP, then just reboot and let it sort it out with the router.

    Which is the easiest way to do this - nic_config_tivo with filesystem set to read/write?

    Thanks

    Kerry

    Change the "gateway=" line in /etc/oztivo.conf to 192.168.0.254

    Save the file, make the TiVo Read Only again, then reboot.

    Thanks Peter.

    I had used nic_configure_tivo to set the Cachecard to DHCP, then rebooted the TiVo. It came up fine, I can telnet to it, it can ping the router and the router appears as the default gateway when you run the route command.

    I edited /etc/oztivo.conf and changed the emulatorport to 9090 (it was 80), (the daily call failed, tclient log below, I edited oztivo.conf and replaced emulator=www.oztivo.net with 65.49.60.197, but the call failed again)

    /etc/oztivo.conf now says

    # OzTiVo menu configuration settings file
    # Please do not edit this file
    # Run the nic_config_tivo tool to reconfigure
    nic=Cachecard
    ip=DHCP
    mac=00:0B:AD:70:12:36
    timing=3
    hostname=oztivo
    emulator=www.oztivo.net
    emulatorport=9090
    netmask=
    gateway=
    ssid=
    wep=
    wepkey=

    then did a daily call again

    (I also remembered that the TiVo was always using DHCP, I had setup the router to always hand over the same IP address. (which is now in the new router).)

    The daily call has failed again with service unavailable

    The tclient log says

    Have you rebooted since changing the emulator port?

    Hmm, I don't believe so. I will do so when I get home.

    Thanks

    I came in to send a message to you to see how it went and only just saw your reply, don't edit your posts as notifications are not sent that it has been updated.

    have you also changed ISP's or just the router?

    Can you please go through these tests and post the results.

    Peter.
