    problem transfering tivo files

    hi.

has anyone else had their tivo refuse to transfer files ?
i have re started both the Tivo and the PC, and no go.

i keep getting server busy errors, too many files in transfer.
it will not transfer with either the web interface or tivo desktop.

this has only just started happening in the last few days.
    was working fine previously.

    any ideas ?

    Jason.

Can you please give us some more information.

Is it only downloads from the TiVo you are having trouble with, is it occurring on different channels?

Are you using a Mac or PC?

yes, it's only the tiVo that seems to be affected.
i can download from the web fine.

im on a PC (windows Media center with all latese patches and updates)
and it's all files recorded on the tivo not just one specific chanel.

it still records fine, and i can watch stuff no problems. i can even log into the web server and tivo desktop will show me the files on it.
    but none will download.

the web interface tells me " Error, server busy" and tivo desktop says the tivo is busy with another transfer and will start this transfer once the
other transfer is done. (even though im not transfering anything)

first time i have seen this. it's been perferct since i got the HNP.

I meant can you still transfer files from your PC to your TiVo.

The error you have is usually cleared by a restart of both devices, which you said that you have done.

Just to be sure, turn off your PC. Then restart the TiVo, wait till after the opening movie, then restart your PC.

I have never transfered or streamed anything to the TiVo so I can't say anything about that.

My pc is on 24/7 and I have had no trouble till recently.
I will do as you said and try again.

I'll let u know the results.

ok, the problem remains after again restarting both the tivo and my PC.
it's really strange, because i can log into the tivo and see all the recordings on it, i just cant transfer any of them.......

so im sure it's not a network issue. something is up with the tivo.
it's as if the tivo thinks it's transferring a file when it's in fact not.

first time after i do the restart, it tries to start a download, then just stays on the starting download (Firefox)
but does not ever start the download. every time after that attempt, i get a server busy, transfer in progress errors.
    even though nothing's being transferred.

even the tivo desktop says im transferring something, and the file will transfer when the other one finishes.
im starting to get very annoyed with this thing......

it was working fine for about 3 months. now this......

Just to narrow down where the fault lies, make the first transfer attempt using TiVo Desktop instead of direct through a browser.

I assume the TiVo can call the server ok.

Also wanted to confirm that nothing has been changed on your router.

ill try those suggestions later today and see if i get anywhere.

at the moment the tivo is powered off at the mains overnight to see if that improves things any.

    to answer your questions....

nothing has changed in my network setup (not that im aware of anyway)
the tivo can still connect to server fine and has reported no failed attempts to date.

will update with results later today.

    thanks for the suggestions.

    ok.

powered up the tivo today (after being off at the mains all night) and tried the tivo desktop.
it transferred a 30 minute file fine.

but the web interface still does not work. and now the desktop is screwed again.... grrrrr

the tivo desktop working is not much help to me, as i cant edit the TS files properly.
i need the PS versions !

    Edit:

restarted the tivo (yet again) and desktop works again. if i try to start a transfer using the web interface, it just hangs on "starting download"
never actually starts anything. then if i cancel the attempt, the desktop is screwed till another restart (tivo)

maybe a recent update killed the web interface ?

ill try downloading via my laptop and see if it's my pc that has issues.

    Edit 2:

    tried the laptop, same issue.

now i know it's the tivo that's playing up.

Did anyone find a resolution/workaround/fix for this issue?

I am experiencing the exact same problems after countless restarts, reboots and unplugging from mains and I can't seem to shake off the 'server busy' messages from the web interface and the TiVo Desktop and iTiVo software just sits there waiting for the DVR to reply.

Appreciate if anyone has any insight on this.

    Thx.
