    Question Installing on Thompson PVR10UK

Apologies for the newbie questions. As a long time TiVo user from the UK, I wasn't expecting to get stuck so quickly!

I recently migrated to Oz from the UK and brought a working PVR10UK with me.

In the UK it was fully working with a Cachecard and Samsung HLD400D drive.

I have tried to use the Phillips 1.6.2 image on the drive. Unfortunately I only have laptops here and the computer I borrowed with IDE connections does not have a network card or any connectivity to the internet. So I couldn't perform the 'Update' step.

After restoring the image, I got some CRC errors and the program stopped.

I performed the other steps including setting up the network settings.

After replacing the drive in the TiVo I get the Welcome to OzTiVo Maintenance screen but it shows Version 1.4 not 1.6 and when I start Guided Setup, it doesn't have any of the OzTiVo customizations. (It shows Welcome to TiVo not Welcome to OzTiVo). Also, I can't ping the TiVo from another PC and the initial call fails.

Is this because I missed the Update step?

If it is I will have to redo it, but I was wondering if I can use an external USB drive with IDE connections connected to a laptop?

The current 1.6.2 install CD will have a 1.6 splash screen and should say "Welcome to OzTiVo" even if you do not do the update to the installer when imaging the drive. It certainly sounds like the wrong installer image to me.

Just to clarify: You did get your install image from here?
    http://www.oztivo.net/oztivofiles/images/

And you did get the Philips 1.6.2 20080604 iso image (94MB in size dated 4th June 2008 23:01) that is in that directory?

In answer to your question about USB to IDE converters: No you can't, sorry.

Thanks for your reply. I did get the Philips 1.6.2 image from http://www.oztivo.net/oztivofiles/images/ and use that.

Is it normal for the installer to finish the restore and then have some CRC error messages? It didn't return to the menu, so I restarted from the CD.

No that is not normal behaviour. What type of PC are you attempting this from (eg approx age, processor type, etc)? General rule of thumb is "the older the better" with best results obtained from early 2000 vintage and/or Pentium II or III type units

Yes, it is old. It even runs Windows 98 ! I set the BIOS to LBA mode and the restore seemed to work fine. I set the swap to 200MB.

Maybe I could reformat the drive and try again .....
