"operation now in progress" I wonder if this means that because my dsl is still connected to dodo, they don't allow me an internet connection over dial up??

Thanks for your help and continued patience, pete.

    second part

Hi again pete. My reply was too long to post as a single message so I've posted it in 2 parts:

Sorry pete but I still don't have an Otclient file. What I'm posting is my tclient log file. I cleared it with the command cat /dev/null > /var/log/tclient first. Then went through guided setup until it fails at the first setup call. Then I've listed the tclient log file and pasted it below:

(please note for obvious reasons I've changed my username and password data but this only affects 2 lines and I see the tivo logged in ok)

    Hi again all

I've been looking on the tivoZA site and someone had a similar error which if I'm right seems to have been fixed by fiddling with the DNS settings or something.

    http://tivoza.nanfo.com/forum/viewto...r=asc&start=15

Not sure why DNS would be needed when the tivo calls the IP address direct though!!

    Comments would be appreciated.

    Chris.

Based on that, you may want to try modifying /etc/resolv.conf to use your ISP's DNS server.

We currently use nameserver 61.88.88.88, so change the IP to your ISP's primary DNS

    The plot thickens

    Hi Pete.

I connected to dodo dial up using my pc, to get their dial up DNS server address. I thought it might also be a good idea to open a browser and see that the connection is working OK and, of course, it aint. Dodo is directing me to a static page saying my login is incorrect (which it isn't). I've emailed them about this and I suppose I will have to wait and see what they say. I normally use dodo ADSL and dodo did tell me that the dial up username/password is the same... but that doesn't seem to change the fact that it ain't working!

I've asked dodo to reset my adsl and dial up passwords and let me know...

I've had dealings with dodo tech support before, and I won't hold my breath waiting for them to sort this out.

So in the meantime I will get a telstra prepaid dial up and try with that. The tivo will only make one call a day so I don't really mind paying a few dollars to telstra while dodo get onto things.

I'll let you know how I get on..

    Thanks again pete/everyone
    Chris.

    We've got a bit further!!

    Hi Pete

I got a reply from dodo and they don't allow concurrent connections on adsl as well as dial up. That was the problem. So I got a cheapo pay as you go telstra dial up.

Telstra works just fine. I get my first call home no probs, and continue with setup until I try to get the ir blaster working....

The only problem now is that the ir blaster won't operate my "austar flinders" STB. I have tried both the oztivo austar control codes, and all the foxtel ones, and they don't work. I've checked that the IR blaster is working (by using camcorder), so I think it may be a code issue.

Should I start a new thread with this issue? Should I use the mailing list?

    Thanks for your continued help.

    With best wishes

    Chris.

    more info

On the back of the sat box it says:

"Altech DSD-999. made in south africa."

I'll look for codes but I'm not hopeful.

There is at least one Austar box that we do not have codes for.

Someone sent me a remote, and the codes I captured for them did not work either.

I have just found it, the codes we didn't get working was for an Austar ADB G3.

So, I suggest maybe you post a message onto onto the mailing list and ask if anyone is using the same box as you have, and what code and speed they are using.

The final option would be to capture your own codes.

    Peter.
