    More Daily Calls/Service Unavailable Problems

    Hi guys

I've been running my Tivo for about a year now. And since August in this location, on a TPG ADSL2+ connection. Since yesterday though, my Tivo hasn't been able to make its daily call, and I'm getting the Service Unavailable message.

I've been reading over the help offered to gazman88, MelissaH, and Donaldovitch to see if I could find what I needed amongst there, but I don't feel any closer.

I can still telnet to my Tivo with no problem, and it can ping external IPs (the google one suggested in the network troubleshooting guide), but it won't resolve any DNS requests.

I've no idea why this would start playing up in the past 2 days, when it has been fine for many months. I have attempted calling TPG support just to see if a change had been made, and if they would even admit to their being a Transparent Proxy in use, but they denied they were using one at all.

I've been trying to follow the instructions on getting emuProxyZA working, but don't believe I've had any luck as yet. It's not coming up when I run a ps aux. (I've followed the instructions here - http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/vie...entProxyServer)

I'm running 1.4 version of the Tivo OS, as far as I know. I could have sworn it was 1.6 when I loaded it, but it says 1.4 when it boots ... so I'll defer to that.

I think I have gone about as far as I'm game, before I start getting in to territory where I break it beyond all repair (I was briefly tempted to perhaps perform an upgrade to 1.6, but thought better of it less I lose all our saved shows and get killed by my gf). I'm throwing myself upon the mercies of the OzTivo gods and ask for any and all assistance!

well, ive spent a week reading, tearing my hair out, reading more, asking people, and lots of refreshing this forum, but i appear to have solved my problems.

key steps were downloading most recent version of emuProxyZA, talking to TPG and getting information from them, having someone with more basic linux knowledge help me, and the biggest step, getting the DNS working with the updates from the emuProxyZA web page.

fingers crossed it does it regularly now, and this isn't just a once off!

big thanks to all you forum posters - without your posts and previous helps of others, i wouldnt have got there!
