I've done one up, basically a copy of the OzTivo one and modified slightly for NZ. Hopefully they are ok with that. I didn't know what email address to use for the feedback link however.

You do know the irony of that don't you??

You have just broken the Copyright on the ozTiVo website, without asking us!?

Dont you love the irony of copying a copyrighted copyright notice though

    So what's going on at nztivo.net ??

Hi guys. Firstly, I want to say thanks heaps forum and for the wiki. However, I have had some huge frustrations that I wanted to give some feedback on.

In summary, I guess I wanted to know if the www.nztivo.net wiki is still used by anyone and if it is considered a useful source of information. In essence, is it worth my time contributing to it? I have put a lot of hours into it recently, but I'm not sure if it is worth continuing.

    Below is the long version.

I guess it is my fault for making assumptions. I found www.nztivo.net, and even though it mentioned the ozTivo forums, I assumed 1) that forums on an Oz based site would not be that relevant, and 2) that the Wiki would have more useful howtos and tutorials.

So I started as something of a Tivo newbie in Feb06, but tried working my way through an old ozTivo manual install with 1.3 instructions at the www.nztivo.net wiki. I then realised there was a more up to date page on the wiki, so started following the 1.4 instructions (and modified the wiki to make it obvious which pages were obsolete). I had problems getting compatible IR signals to my VCR and gave up till Sept06 when I got a PAL tuner upgrade. I then tried ozTivo Image 1.5 and updated the wiki 1.4 instructions, but got stuck finding Free To Air channels, and with work getting heavy, left if for awhile.

Anyway, I recently started trying again, first by again trying to use my 1.5 image. Eventually I discovered that the emulator port had been changed, so I made the changes to my tivo and the wiki.
I then found that the ozTivo image is up to 1.6.2 and has improved a lot, so I imaged my tivo HDD with 1.6.2 and have updated the http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/ImageWithScreenShots1.4 to be relevant to v1.6.2 whilst keeping information unique to NZ. The key is that if you are copying information from another source that updates more consistently and reliablly than you, then you should always link to that source and tell people to check there for updates. So now it should be reliatively future proof.

Now, I just found the nzTivo image!! So was maybe all this wiki work has been a waste of time? But that is a conversation for another thread. But as you can imagine, I am pretty frustrated at this point. It would have only taken a single sentence with a link on 1 or 2 wiki pages to save me a whole heap of grief. Sadly but honestly, I would have been far better off if the Wiki had never existed, because then I would have kept searching and found these ozTivo forums. However, I am trying to update the wiki everywhere I can think of so that noone else has the same nightmare I've had.

Some nzTivo.net wiki pages not editable

I've also had a bit of a problem editing the wiki - some pages are not editable any more (I know they used to be). For example, since I have spent quite a few hours getting the ImageWithScreenShots1.4 page up to date, I would like to draw people's attention to this by editing the page's description at http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Topics but I don't have edit access on that page. So could a nztivo.net admin look at restoring edit access? If this is too difficult, could you please edit it to:
"1.4 to 1.6.2 (New Version). How to install the Tivo Operating System Image onto your large Hard Drive(s) - includes screen shots to help. Was originally written for OzTivo Image 1.4 (May 2005), but has been updated to help with OzTivo Image 1.6.2 (Nov 2006), and has tips on how to future-proof it (keep the NZ-specific information as well as the latest OzTivo changes."

I have also had similar problems at http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Turbonet - the link is now dead, but there are great pdfs are available at http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores...structions.cfm
And that they should then look at http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Networking and http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Setu...ivo_Networking for more information. Please tweak edit access on this page too or use the changes above.

I tried emailing the suggested contact (tivo@nztivo.net) 5 days ago, but got no response. I'll also try emailing/PMing timmy.

    Thanks

Thanks for your hard work updating the Wiki. I don't have any admin rights so I can't help with your requests though. I'm willing to help you set up your TiVo if you are still having problems (I'm in Chch too). Message or email me.

There maybe some disruptions to nztivo.net wiki in a couple of weeks. I am moving it to a new hosting provider. Will keep you updated.
