Best way to connect TIVO to surround sound?

    Hello,

I have a series one Pal Tivo (with Foxtel Digital) and a set of Logitech Z-5500speakers.

I am wanting to connect my surround sound speakers to my Tivo.

Just wondering the best way to do so.

My speakers have 3 x 3.5mm headphone jacks which I used to use from my PC sound card. But they also accept Digital and Optical input.

The Foxtel Digital box (pace) has an optical out which would be good, but when going through the Tivo, there is a slight delay in transmission, so I am assuming that is no go.

Any Ideas and help would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers!

Tivo does not resolve surround sound, and as you have noticed there is a slight delay between input and output of the TiVo.

Does the Foxtel box I have output optical audio (PACE DC420NF)?

It has the output connection there but I do not know if it is activated. I checked in the setup and I can only choose Stereo / Mono not sure if AC3 and MPG is related.

Don't know. I do not live in a Foxtel area.

the 3.5mm jack is an optical output so if you use an optical cable then yes you will receive 5.1

Just to clarify what others have said.

You cannot get surround sound out from a TiVo, the coding is killed before it even gets written to the hard disk.

But if you want to make use of them, hook them up to the STB and only use them for 'live' movie watching ie not through the TiVo. At least fox don't have commercials during movies
