    Problem fine tuning with palmd_config

After excellent help from Darren, my problem of poor FTA reception is fixed (Batemans Bay/Moruya area is new to TiVo, and required a 'slice".This was most expeditiously done.)
    Everthing is working perfectly.....
Except that channel 11 is just off tune (B&W and wormy)
    Darren led me through:
    a. puTTY
    b. telnet connection setting (return key sends telnet a new line instead of M)
    c. the bash prompt
    d. palmod_config
    e. thru the menus to "Fine Tune Channel"

Instead of the screen Darren expected, allowing selection of a channel to fine tune, the following screen appears:
    ..............
    Fine tuning channel 0.
    Default frequency is 46250 KHz
A value of zero will remove the entry.
Enter a new frequency[currently 2650 KHz] or 'x' when done.
    ...............
Have tried rebooting TiVo, saving and restarting from thr palmod_config menu, and generally trying stuff to no avail.
I am clearly not getting the correct "Fine tuning channel" menu.

Can anyone help me resolve this problem?

I am new to TiVo, but wrapped in the concept and ease of operation.

    Cheers

    Don M

    More info

More exploration of the palmod_config box reveals that there is a line hidden at the top when using the "Fine Tune Channel" menu option.
    The full text is:
    .................................................. ...............................
    Choice 2:
Select a channel to fine tune (0 to 69) or 'x' when done.
    Fine tuning channel 0.
    Default frequency is 46250 KHz
A value of zero will remove the entry.
Enter a new frequency[currently 2650 KHz] or 'x' when done.
    .................................................. ................................
But there is no oportunity given to select the channel to be finetuned.
It seems to jump directly to channel 0
Would really appreciate help, as I am so close to getting my new toy up and running.
    Cheers

    Hi Don.

I just spoke with you on the phone and I hope that fixes your issue.

All the time I have been advising Don he needs the "Return key sends telnet New Line instead of ^M" option box ticked..... when all the time I should have been telling him the opposite.

Where I slipped up here is all the time I have been using PuTTY I have been creating profiles for different IP addresses as copies of other ones which has this preset unticked.... but when I was trying to advise Don I was just starting fron scratch and PuTTY reverts back to it's defaults with that option ticked and I did not know this.

Gee I feel like a right goose about now

    Hi Darren
    'tis done!
Fine tuning worked perfectly, and I now have a fully functioning TiVo!
Now know lots more than I did this morning!
In the process today found a dickey RF lead, and that my channel 11 (WIN) RF is weak compared with the other channels.
Fixed one and will work on the other.

Again, thank you so much for your help in all of this.
I suspect Troy and I will be a frequent TiVo flyers.

Next stop - settop digital box - which technology?

    Regards

    Don

    Fantastic!

Set top box? Hmmm... not really my forte. TiVo can't do High Definition so probably if you wanted a digital STB my advice would be to pick one that already has a set of IR commands from the list on the Guided Setup page here:

Try a Strong. Fairly cheap from "Hardly Normal" and work fine with TiVO. Don't worry about HD. Like up here on the Central Coast the only HD is the ABC and it will be like that for a while, and as Darren said TiVO don't do HD.
