    DVD backup

    Hi everyone,
Can anyone advise whether the newer combined TIVO/DVD revorder models will work in Aus?
I am looking at this model :
    Pioneer Elite DVR-57H DVD-R/DVD-RW Recorder withTiVo® Service

    Exclamation my 2c....

By the sounds of things, it might be reliant on the "Series 2" model of the TiVo. In which case, there has been no solid case of whether or not it is compatible. The series one TiVo software, to my knowledge does not have any programs which would allow you to "burn DVDs" which would mean that you would have to do some software alterations from scratch.

That's just my 2c worth though, I don't know what others thought?!

    Cheers

    Definitely not compatible

The DVD versions of the TIVO are all series 2 and rely on Version 4 of the TIVO software - the guys in the USA have managed to hack these using a trick called Monte (as in Two Card Monte).

There has been some preliminary work done by some of the OZTIVO guys on some of the standard (non DVD) Series 2 Units - but it is only preliminary groundwork (i.e. trying to get the MPEG chip into PAL mode etc)

There is a still a long way to go and very little impetus to do so as everyone in Australia seems to be happy with what they are getting from the Series 1 (and the great prices we can get them at)

Obviously in the future as the Series 1 units get harder someone will try to crack the Series 2 over here

    Unhappy

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess that means that I will have to be content with buying a standard HDD dvd Recorder
