Some Forum I am aware of give an option of choosing email notifications of specific thread posts.
This push is much more user friendly than the current pull model.
The really good ones include the post!

it always has, you just have to choose it!
In control panel, go into edit options, then in Default Thread Subscription Mode select instant email notifications. Then you will receive emails each time a subscribed thread has a new post, with the message included.
