I'm afraid I don't have a Thomson either. I did manage to get one up and running but it was with a TurboNet card (I got bored of waiting 5 minutes to boot up with a Cachecard in it!) and it's now gone back to it's owner. I did hit the same sort of problems that Simon's hitting though. My problem is that as there was no magic line of UNIX that solved it immediately I'm still slightly in the dark as to what I did. I can take you through the same steps I took but it may or may not make the difference...

Peter,
I neglected to answer the question about drivers for the cachecard.
The image was downloaded and installed to HD.
No other drivers have been loaded. The questions during the install of the image were answered to suit a cachecard.
I've read Ben's comment about the Cachecard startup delay and I've never experienced that, so I've been and taken the cover off the Tivo and checked the cachecard. There are two lights, lit, on it, Power and Link.
I rebooted and watched for the cachecard screen and when it came up, it read: Cachecard Driver Version1 and below that Error.
As a precaution, I removed the Dimm from it and rebooted but got the same result.
What now, please?
Please excuse me for not printing thanks to all concerned on postings but I'm trying to keep things concise. But rest assured, all contributions are greatfull received.

I have 2 Thomson units, 1 running a Cachecard and the other running a turbonet haven't had the issues your experiencing.
I built the NZ Thomson image and it should have the 20050218 drivers which support the Cachecard.
You receiving the "Cachecard Driver Version1 and below that Error" screen indicates the driver is incorrect or the card is at fault.
You should have a directory located here,
/var/hack/nic_install_tivo_20050218
change to the dir and issue a ./nic_install_tivo cachecard
configure the network settings
When you reboot the tivo if you have the correct drivers, you should get this screen after the Welcome, Powering Up screen.

If you don't have a nic_install_tivo_20050218 directory, then follow these instructions to download and update the driver.

jaidev,
Thank you very much. I followed your advice and gained a blue screen as you showed and it's now contacted the emulator and is busy processing things.
The latest drivers were there but not being utilised.
So, this has solved the issue of communicating with the mother ship, now to get a headend organised....
Is it worth discussing it here, or should i address it directly to DJC?
Many thanks to all respondents, all advice was gladly received.
Please feel free to contact me if I can help at all.

Glad you resolved the issue.

Allis/was going well. Had a couple of seemingly successful calls to the emulator but there was no guide data to be had. Noticed the date was May 2010, have settime to current date and year plus time. Now I have guide data until 19/4. Looking goo.
But (isn't there always a but?) whereas, prior to being able to contact the outside world, I could get TivoWebPlus ok, now that it's made a few calls I keep getting a "The connection was refused when attempting to contact 192.168.1.10." when trying form the same browser as before.
I've had a look about the twiki, with limited success and have tried the following:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# ps ax | grep TivoWeb
272 p0 SW 0:00 grep TivoWeb
I'm a little unsure as to how to interpret this. Does it mean it's there but not running? If so, how do I start it, please?
-
It is not running, a reboot should start it. If not, we should find out why.
try:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# cat /var/log/tivoweb.log
This will show TiVoWeb's log and hopefully the reason it is not starting.
Peter.

Peter,
Thanks once more for responding.
Rebooted and tried you suggestion, which yielded:
Trying 192.168.1.10...
Connected to 192.168.1.10.
Escape character is '^]'.
[TiVo [p0] ~]# cat /var/log/tivoweb.log

I think I see two possible problems, namely:
retrying after errTmActiveLockConflict ...
-error initializing channel table; aborted
Unless it's a "version" thing

Further to my last post, I'm temporarily running on a neighbouring postcode and only get two channels and they're transposed, between Tivo saying it's TV3 but the program content being C4 and the other way round on C4 by Tivo which is TV3 content.
Thought I'd mention that in case it's confusing things.

The errTmActiveLockConflict I think is just the TiVo was busy, so not an issue.
I haven't seen the Channel error before, but according to the log TiVoWb has started and is running.
Peter.
