Tivo Help Please :)

I;m sure you were expecting my post some day hehe

Firstly you have done a FANTASTIC job with my Sony Tivo.

Thank you very much! Now i need to know how to use the thing hehe

I have set up my D Link Wireless bridge as a DHCP and does it take awhile for the DHCP for the tivo to pick it up? Or do i need to reset or reboot it?

Also the Strong remote doesn't work :( is there a way of going into the meny and changing these settings? I did alittle reading and it says to goto "recorder & phone setup" but when i click on it, nothing happens? Its like its disabled or something?

Ok.. just did some major testing and hooked up the IR and yes the remote works with the tivo but sometimes the channels dont change. I get a blue screen saying "The recorder cannot display live tv. try the following tips etc etc..."

If i get close to the rcorder it starts to change the channels again?
But if im sitting 3 to 4 meters away it doesnt unless i reset the recorder?

I also dont know if the tivo has picked up the DHCP, ill wait a day or two and see if the epg continues to update.

The only major problem now is the EPG starts from 101 to 999 for ausstar.

The channels on my sat box runs from 1 to 130.

I've downloaded PuTTy to telnet to the Tivo so i can change the channel
setting numbers but i cannot connect. my wireless bridge is 192.168.1.5
im getting a cannot connect error.

could this be because the tivo isnt connected to the net or a firewall?

If i can edit the channels for the epg then the channels will all line up and i can make use of the epg.

is there any other software other then putty that i can try?

IR changes can be flakey with some models of STB without some fiddling. There are some tips on the OzTiVo website to improve it.

I'm confused here. Have you changed topic and now talking about the TiVo remote not responding with the TiVo or the IR Blaster not working with the TiVo. If you are talking about the TiVo remote performance with the TiVo is this with the peanut remote you got with the TiVo or the Sony remote? Does the same thing happen with both?

Sorry I can't help with using wireless bridge devices on turbonet cards. Never used them. There is some information on the OzTiVo website. Same goes for your PuTTY connection issues as this is all external to a TiVo and/or software configuration and not what I specialise in.

Correct. Austar Digital run from 101 to 999 and this is what the EPG conforms to.

Most - if not all - STB have the option to edit the channel lineup. This is what you will need to do to bring it in line with Austar Digital standards, or consult Austar on what you need to do with your STB. Some have known to have to get their STB swapped for another make by their pay TV provider due to IR compatibility problems.

Thank for your reply Darren.. yeah the IR is alittle funny.. if i use the digits it works fine, but if i use the CH Up/Down then use the channels then the digits don't work anymore.

I need to reset the Tivo for it to work again.

Also as i mentioned before the EPG runs from 101 to 999 so i need to change the 101 to 999 to 1 to 130. I think this can be done via telnet.

If this can be done then i wil have a play over the weekend.

If not then i guess the tivo will be worthless unless i find another solution.

Darren has suggested you change the channels on your STB not on the TiVo.

Your channels should match Austar's anyway.

that wont be posible bro, the channels range from 101 to 999 so i will need to fill in the gaps with a channels i dont need, and that wont be posible as you cannot double up on channels.

Talk to Austar, we use their channel numbering so there must be a way to get your STB to match their guide. a lot of boxes allow you to move channels allowing unused gaps. Or they may need to send you an update over the satellite.

Unless you are not using an Austar STB?

I now understand your problem. The only option is make the changes on the TiVo, but this really ugly as each time Austar changes their line up, even just adding or removing a single channel you will need to move all the stations again as your work will be overwitten by a new headend after a daily call.

Peter it's really rare that they will change there line up, i dont mind changing things around if needed as long as i know how to do it :)

May i ask why you have so many Tivos? Do you record one to another to another to another? ;)

As I am to hardware, Peter is one of our senior software enthusiasts with TiVo (see, I told you that I am not the expert on everything TiVo). Therefore having more than one TiVo is handy for testing purposes.
