View Full Version : Loewe IR codes

I'm at a loss...
I have a Loewe VCR, and want to use it to provide the FTA channels to my US Series 1 Tivo.
I can't seem to transmit the IR codes (capture seems fine) using the IRSliceCreator.
I've tried to transmit at all frequencies between 31 and 66.
Do any of you know if there if a code which works out-of-the-box ie from a different manufacturer?
I understand that there are at least two other forum members who also own Loewes, so I'd be keen to hear from them...maybe programming the IR codes from a Loewe hasn't been done before :-(
I also read somewhere Goldstar use the same remote codes, but that isn't an option under the guided setup.
Thanks,
Dozley

Unfortunately I don't know of anyone who has successfully used a Loewe VCR as tuner for a TiVo.
There are a few members who have Loewe TV's and they also cannot get the TiVo to control the volume.
You would probably be best off buying a supported digital STB.
The current list of supported STB's and VCR's includes:

Thanks very much for your reply Peter.
I contacted the Loewe importer in New Zealand yesterday and spoke to one of the technicians.
I asked about the frequency that they transmit at, but he said he didn't know.
He did however say that they used the same codes as Panasonic.
I tried each of the Panasonic codes in the OzTivo slice, but none of them worked :-(
In other news, I heard back from the Loewe Helpline in Germany (via the Loewe helpline in the UK). Their response was:
"frequency is 36 khz, TV uses RC5 code, VCR Kaseiko code"
I'm too sure where I should go from here, or whether I should just give up and get a PAL tuner installed sooner rather than later...

Well now you have the frequency at least, so theres no reason why you cant go here -> http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/IR/CaptureIrCodesWithIrSliceCreator
No other equipment is required (your tivo is used to capture the codes).
You won't need to run through all the frequency possibitlities as you know what the frequency is.

P.S If you get the IR code captured successfully, and it works, don't forget to submit it to the IR database to help out other people with Lowe VCR's. :)

Hi Zollymonster,
Yes - in theory I should be able to use IR Slice Creator. I did this the other day (before I knew the frequency). I found that the "target length" was "2" and I was able to capture all of the codes. When trying to transmit them it didn't seem to work. As I didn't know the frequency then, I tried ALL of the frequencies from 31 to 66...(as per original post).
I'm not sure what "TV uses RC5 code, VCR Kaseiko code" from the Loewe helpline means - I'm guessing it's a way to differentiate between the TV and VCR when sending codes, so I don't think that will help me.
I could try and redo the IR Slice Creator, maybe using different target lengths this time, and see how I go, but I don't hold out much hope.

Hi.
Just thought I'd finish off this thread (unless anyone else has something to add) by saying I never did get it to work. Tried a frequency of 36, tried different code lengths - no joy :-(
I'm just gonna have to get a PAL tuner mod done ASAP...oh well...

Or just buy a supported VCR or STB :)
