How to Telnet a Tivo

Hi, I'm new to this.

If its easy to explain could you please tell me how to "Telnet a Tivo".
By that I mean what are the physical steps that I would have to take to get into this mode. I have looked all over the Oztivo site and all I have seen this the assumption that one knows how to get into it. Is it different to getting into Tivoweb (that I can do thru the tivo's IP address)

Hi Ralph,

If you're running Windows (Boo!), download and install 'putty' (first hit on Google). When you run it, put your TiVo's IP address in the 'Host Name' box and select 'telnet' as the protocol (the port should then set to 23). You will also need to untick "Return key sends telnet New Line instead of ^M" in the Connection->Telnet settings. Press the 'Open' button and (hopefully) it will connect to your TiVo and present you with a screen with a prompt like:


[TiVo [p0] ~]#and you're there.

If you're running Linux (Yay!), open a terminal session and type "telnet <IP-address-of-tivo>".

If you're running OSX (Meh!), open its terminal and do as above (for linux). Alternatively there might also be putty-like telnet clients for OSX.
