View Full Version : Tivo remotes - are the newer ones smarter?

Just bought a 32" LCD from a generic vendor, my Tivo remote is from a Philips 13GB unit so very old. Are newer remotes equipped with more IR codes and therefore worth buying to test against my new TV (as my Tivo remote doesn't control its volume or power on/off)??
Or are they all the same?
Cheers

Have you tried searching through all the codes using the instructions @ Find a Code (http://customersupport.tivo.com/knowbase/root/public/tv1035.htm)
Even if your exact code is not listed in the guides, cycling through them you might find one that works.
Other than that, as far as I am aware the newer remotes contain the same codes as the original remote (maybe Darren will pop in to confirm). I do know that newer TiVo Software has more choices built in to the menus, perhaps the TiVo programs the remote or the TiVo remote causes the blaster to issue the correct commands.

Tried the find a code, no luck. Fairly sure the peanut remote codes have nothing to do with the IR blaster or the Tivo itself from my tinkering. So basically - bugger! Thanks anyway.
