Nice...

Wonder if it'll work with our builds?

TiVo 2 Go can do some cool stuff, but I believe it's only on Series 2 TiVo's.

You just need to get the files you stream off into MP4 format. I have already done it on my Mac using TiVo Tool and then an application called iSquint to convert it for iPod use. (and works on PSP too).
I do get a lag on the video - mouths not syncing with words etc - but that happens during the download part. Not the converting.
But they look pretty on the small iPod screen.

I notice you mentioned that you've been able to convert to mp4? I've got as far as downloading stuff and converting it to mp2 using tyTool on Windows, but am looking for a good (preferably freeware) converter to go mp2->mp4.
Any suggestions? I know you mentioned you are using a Mac (I'm on a Windows box) but thought you might know of something?

Not sure of any Windows apps sorry.
This page I found quickly lists a few likely candidates but they don't look free.

You can check out http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software.htm
(Make sure you specify show all)
If it's divx/xvid you're after, VirtualDubMod and Xvid will do it.
If it's real MP4, VirtualDubMod will read MP2 files from the tivo (using TyTool), you need to find an MP4 encoder Codec.

:D I don't think it still qualifies as TiVo to ipod downloading with all the transferring and converting.
Hi all,
Actually it sounds like the "official" Tivo-ipod solution will be similarly clunky, requiring an interim step of taking the video through a computer for transcoding (surely the tivo itself could do that?).
So we're probably no worse off.
The safest bet for making ipod-compliant MPEG-4 video (and its very fussy apparently, resolution must be just-so) is probably Quicktime Pro, the newest version of which includes an export setting for Video Ipod.
[Man, finally a technical subject here I actually genuinely know something about!]
I haven't tried to find a way to get "raw" ty video files to play in QT. If they would the transcoding would be a one-step thing. I'll give it a go one of these days...
Cheers,
Tony
