TivoWebPlus won't make Phone call

Hi all,

Well against my better judgement, I finally gave in to curiosity and installed TivoWebPlus. Why did I bother! Anyway the problem I am now having is that TivoWebPlus hangs when trying to make a manual daily call. I use this function as standard as my broadband connection is not always on.

Has anyone had this problem and knows of a solution or if easier, is there a simple way to revert back to TivoWeb?

Any help would be appreciated.

Just replace the phone module from tivowebplus with the old one from tivoweb.

That has seemed to have fixed the phone call hanging problem, however now I get "Failed. Service unavailable" message. I don't think minnie is down so something else is not right.

It's not just you, others are also having issues with daily calls tonight.

I buggered things up while playing with WebPlus. Luckly WebPlus makes copies of your startup files called xxx.xxx.ORIG. I just ssh in with putty and copied those files back over the ones WebPlus made. Did a reboot and now things a fine.

I wouldn't think it's necessary, but may be quicker.

Can you remember what you did when you installed TWP ?

It should be as easy as just removing the startup for TWP and re enabling TW in your rc.sysinit.author file, unless you have deleted some of the files.

ok, then your probably best off posting the relevant parts of your tclient or otclient log just after trying a call and we can see why it is failing.

Ok the first part tells me your in Qld and have Fox digital.

The 2nd part is tells me you don't use emuproxy2 and your calls are not making it direct to minnie.

So now it's time for you to run through the network troubleshooter.

follow from about half way down NetworkingHowto (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Network/NetworkingHowto) starting at "Configuration and Diagnostics" and follow the tests and let us know the results.

Sorry for the delay, was away Saurday night so have only had a chance to look at the tivo now. And I glad to say problem fies.

Firstly I tried the "IP Config" diagnostic and this checked out OK.

Secondly I tried the "Route" diagnostic and I did not get a second default listing. This made me think the change i had made to my Tivo's IP addess from dhcp to a static address was causing the problem. Once I reset to dhcp and rebooted I could make a successfull phone call. I even when back to TivoWebPlus to see if it also makes a succesfull and everything is OK.

For some reason my network (Airport express) must block/lockup the phone when using a static ip for the Tivo.

Good to hear it's all fixed, but I would think you should be able to use a fixed IP with your airport express.

Was the fixed IP you choose in the same subnet as what DHCP allocates and did you select the right gateway IP?

In the tivo config all I changed was the ip from dhcp to static, all the rest (ip subnet & gateway) I left the same.

ie:

Current/New Configuration:
mac address = 00:0B:AD:FE:9D:24
ip address = 10.0.1.3
ip subnet mask = dhcp
ip gateway = dhcp
debug level = off
cache statistics = 0 seconds

I don't know if the tivo will still get the subnet and gateway from your dhcp server if you have set a static IP. Try again setting those manually.

Also was the static IP 10.0.1.3 you tried on the same subnet as your dhcp would have given?

Yes this IP range is what my airport express gives out.

Much better to have a static IP as sometimes you need to reboot the Aiport routers and bookmarked TivoWeb & telnet session are all the same IP no matter what.

Glad to hear you have static IP going.

It's certainly a lot easier to troubleshoot if at least your TiVo's IP doesn't keep changing.
