My TiVO has been working quite nice the last couple of weeks. Been making DVDs etc. But the wif has strange viewing habits. She likes to have the programs (and movies) she enjoys sitting in the TiVO, and this takes up room I need to keep recording stuff (like Red Dwarf at 2am).

Also my kids will be getting their own rooms so it would be nice to stream files that they want to watch (means I won't be giving them TVs).

So I am looking into making a PVR with a couple of large HDs. It doesn't need TV recording like the TiVO just somewhere to store the files and a server to stream them to several users. All I've found is Myth, Freevo and +VCR but these do the same job as the TiVO. It would also be nice if I could stream TiVOs TY files from this PVR into a couple of frontends like xboxs or something. Also the TiVO has a "Save to VCR" I assume this is just video out that could be sent to something like MythTV.

Does anyone know of some other Linux programs to act as my backend?

Sounds like Xbox mediacentre would be ideal. You can stream shows from the tivo or pc to your Xboxes.

some of the steps are described here XboxAndTiVo (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Software/XboxAndTiVo)

Yep. That's all it is.

Peter is right. Xbox would be the go here...... although quite a few of us also go the multi-TiVo setup too ;)

Well what a magic thing Google is! Found an interesting thing so that I can watch whats on the TiVO on my PC called WinVo found the thread here http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28443 with links to the software. But if someone is watching the TiVO and I start watching something on the pc it makes TiVO a bit jerky, also happens when I use TiVOWebPlus.

Also found TiVOMyth at http://tivo-mplayer.sourceforge.net/mythtivo.html More research needed. My 2nd TiVO finally arrived via surface from the states so I gotta get that going and then find a cheap Xbox to play with. Geek heaven.

This is normal.

Don't forget S1 TiVo's only have a 50mhz processor. Even though the mpg encoding/decoding is handled by separate chips, It has a lot of work to do.
