I know these were being discussed in the forums mid-2004 but it looks like it's actually coming out soon.

The Foxtel PVR launch at Myer was advertised by Foxtel in an ad recently (don't think it's been on for long). The site doesn't tell you much as they're trying to make it a mysterious launch:

hi John (and all, my first post!)

Here's some info about the new Foxtel PVR: http://www.foxteliq.com.au/

Cost

$100 install fee + $395 access fee + $6 per month.

Features

Two tuners so you can record two channels at once.

160GB HDD.

Advert skipping disabled.

Has a USB port but it's disabled.

Has DRM (Digital Rights Management) so any recorded programs (if you're allowed to record them) are deleted after 2 days.

Can't accept an external feed so channels 7 and 10 can't be accessed (as they aren't available in digital format on Fox)

Overall pretty much what you'd expect from the likes of Fox...

Wow. 4 good reasons NOT to lease one! :) Thanks for that. The two tuners is the only benefit for most of us but I've got analgoue cable anyway so it's practically useless for me.

Why would you want one of those, when you can record anything you want via your tivo? :)

TiVo is certainly cheaper ... and considering all the money foxtel charge and you still don't even own the unit why would you use anything else....
