Shouldn't you post this message in one of the other "no guide data" threads?
If we have the forum littered with "no guide data" threads we'll have difficulty seeing anything else.
Yes, we (they?) have another guide data problem.

TV One is fine,
although sky has changed something for Sky Movies 1, working on it.. maybe something to do with WS mode since Jan 1, but doubt it

The emulator is stuffed - I get no data from it though the process says it's successful.
Until it is fixed you'll have to manually load your guide data like this:
wget http://216.58.174.222/tjvinfo/nztivo.slice
dbload30.tcl nztivo.slice

A bit more info please?, When you did a daily emulator call you received no guide data at all?, Did your tivo show it was loading data i.e. 10% done..?
Did your tivo have any data at all before you did this? Maybe it's already made a call and processed the slice beforehand? You can't load it twice.

No, I didn't get the 10%, 20%, ... normal messages.

Data that I did have ran out at about midday yesterday. So if I had loaded a slice previously it had nothing in it.
So my conclusion was that the emulator site has old data in it because I was able to manually load data up until the 11th Jan from Timmy's site. I last tried the emulator at around 8AM this morning (and failed) then loaded from Timmy's site right after.
Thanks.

Hmmm... Looks like the timezone bug may have bit us after all (the Tivos and the emulator are in different timezones, so when the tivos connect versus when the emulator thinks they connect can create a situation where the Tivo thinks it already has a slice because of the date). I just made a quick lil' hack that should resolve it.
That being said, something else may be at play here, 'cause I got bit by the bug (most recent slice wasn't downloading), but I wasn't out of data. Also, the most recent slice still doesn't appear to have data for channel 20, so lack of same doesn't look like a usable troubleshooting tool.
Perhaps Sean managed to trip the bug a couple times in a row? Possible I suppose.

Yes Sky Movies 1 (Channel 20) doesn't have guide data, this is still an issue I'm looking into it, seems to be around the same time Sky changed Movies 1 to also show wide screen movies, they may have changed some parameters of the station.

Has there been any update to the missing data ?

No fix yet, I discovered a major bug in one of the supporting programs thats used with the guide creation process. The program is being fixed, however the fixed program will break the p a r s e r, which will need fixing too. This is because of the change Sky has made to Sky Movies 1 ONLY.
Tim is coming back to NZ in the first week of Feb he will fix the p a r s e r then. And will also get back into pushing the community guide data effort.
I am currently busy with my up coming wedding, however procedures are underway to fix this issue.
It's not as major as it sounds, since guide data for the other 60 stations is still fine.
The good news is that we will also have guide data for all the pay per view movies.

Just as a thought, do you require and help with the guide data, I am more than willing to have a look at how it is put together and see if there is any way that I can help. even maybe spread the load.

No not with the current way it is made. But the community guide data effort requires help hence the reason for it's existence a community effort. See here (http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=393)

i'll fix this when i get back, thanks for that. Currently doesn't check for overlaping start/end times on same channel/day, actually i'm surprised this is happening given source of data... dunno. something quirky going on

The following is a report showing the Gaps in the existing EPG slice (v.638).
The negative numbers as the result of a show being scheduled to start before the previous one has finished. I have had a quick look at the slice and many of these are the result of duplicate Program entries (which have different descriptions) starting at the same time, but with different durations. I am guessing this is what Tim is having a look at when he gets back.
This information may be useful to anyone building EPG collectors.

The attached TivoWeb module is a very cut down version of an old module by the same name that use to be available in the TivoCommunity forum. It can be used to get an overview of the "health" of the guide data for all channels (essentially a quick attempt at migrating the perl validate script over to TivoWeb). It can also be used to find orphaned season passes.

some gaps or all gaps?
I actually only care about the FTA stuff :).
The slice generator (http://www.forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?p=2378#post2378) I use takes the slice from your site, removes all channels other than FTA(+Sky1/SkyMovies), and replicates the data so that I have three weeks worth of EPG.
If it helps, here are the gaps for all the channels in the original slice:

cool as i think i've fixed this in the new version. Actually it was fixed in old version too but I commented it out cause I thought it was causing trouble and forgot to uncomment it. doh doh doh. Anyway reverted back to a database design now anyway which makes it is easier to inspect the data.
Anyway, keep this gap announcements coming as we'll most likely be using the new p a r s e r next week and i'll be keen to ensure this issue is corrected once and for all.
cheers,

Yes - mine did too. I thought it was just me as I have had a few problems so tried to manually download the slice at http://216.58.174.222/tjvinfo/nztivo.slice
but this isn't working which in itself is odd... (EDIT - This is a net issue at my end... DSL wont get the file, but dial up will)

Here too. And I only use the FTA channels. ARG!
Thompson's idea (above (http://forums.oztivo.net/showpost.php?p=3018&postcount=23)) of creating predicted guide data sounds very attractive right about now. Note to self: have a go at installing it tonight.

Mine has as well. Not sure what happened, and foolishly noticed a while ago and thought that it would come right.
Have to resort to old technology to check on channel 1 and 2....
Does anyone have any ideas what's happened here?

i'm just about done (final bit of testing) on an updated p a r s e r.
This will included predicted data, I have no idea how this will affect Thompson's predicted guide data step if he continues to use it.

I'm just about done (final bit of testing) on an updated par ser.
This will included predicted data, I have no idea how this will affect Thompson's predicted guide data step if he continues to use it.
Thanks for the warning, but any predicted data would be more than welcome by anyone with a TiVo :) I am guessing you have renumbered the StationDay's so that predicted data can be updated by future slices? This post (http://www.forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?p=2378#post2378) has a small writeup on the reason for it. Of course the current sequential scheme would also work if there was a database/file held somewhere that mapped the sequence numbers to a Station+Day. You just need to be able to update existing (predicted) entries already existing in the database.

I'm working on the guide data just using some basic SQL to pull forward data where it doesn't exist but has show up the last two weeks.
Hmm... an example of the problem you may encounter is as follows... if you predict information for TV2 next Wednesday and give the StationDay a ServerId of 1234500... then a few days later when you get the real schedule for that day and you then give the StationDay a differnet ServerId then there is likely to be two schedules in the database for TV2 for Wednesday - and I have no idea which would be used...
The trick is to use a number which can be predicted (such as ChannelId+DayNum) so that when it comes time to update it you simply overwrite it (using a later version number).
The other thing to watch is that you probably want to alter the ProgramId for the predicted shows otherwise they will not be recorded as they will be the same as the previous weeks Id, and TiVo will not record the same programme twice within a 28 day period.

That's why this Guide Data Checker is useful. Using it I knew a few days ahead that TV3 had gaps (1 channel among many).
In the current circumstances everybody should be using this module.
Instead of ~moaning~, do what I did and offer to help. :rolleyes:

Actually, the predicted data would not solve the problem as it is usually implemented as a duplicate of the previous weeks slice, so if there was a gap in that... then there would be a gap in the predicted data. And you would only be using the predicted data if you had not been able to contact the emulator to receive the real data (which may also have gaps in it).
The program that creates the slice needs to be improved so that there are no gaps in the data. There is a chance that the pa rsers/scrapers are the ones at fault, but the other sources of XML-TV data seem to contain the missing information which leads me to believe it is the slice generator which is getting confused.
For example TV1 always has gaps, but the following script will pa rse the TVNZ site fairly well (for TV2 just replace tvone with tv2 in the URL). It does not work out the duration of the episodes, but that can be deduced from the start time of the following show. [The optional parameter to this function is the day (eg thursday)]
TV1() {
TMP=/tmp/TV_TVNZ_TV1.tmp
if test -n "$1"; then
day="&date=`date -d $1 +%d%m%Y`"
else
day=""
# TVNZ site is a little broken, seems to display yesterdays if
# todays is not available, so hardcode it.
day="&date=`date +%d%m%Y`"
fi
lynx -dump -nolist -width=1024 "http://tvnz.co.nz/view-preempt/tvone_epg_skin/channelDesc=tv_one$day" >$TMP
cat $TMP |\
sed "s,\',',g;s,\&,\&,ig" |\
while read line; do
if test `expr "$line" : '.* [0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9]$'` -ne 0; then
title=`echo "$line" | sed 's, \([0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9]\)$,,'`
time=`echo "$line" | sed 's,.* \([0-9][0-9]:[0-9][0-9]\)$,\1,'`
hour=`echo "$time" | sed 's,:.*,,'`
read desc
desc="`echo "$desc" | sed 's,[0-9]*$,,'`"
echo "$title|$time|TV1|$desc"
fi
done

I'm sorry (truly, no smiley here).
Like you with your smiley in your message, what I was saying was not meant to be taken literally. I can see that the ~'s around the word "moaning" and the roll-eyes smiley were not obvious enough (it's not unknown for me to get in trouble like that).
The fact is, previously I have moaned. At the same time I have offered to help, but those offers had not been taken up. My comment here was really a dig at Jaidev, Timmy and Ed - to encourage them to spread the load as there are a few able people out there only too willing.
And lastly, only this morning I have had an offer of my help accepted, so hopefully now I can contribute.

Anyone else missing guide data for TV3 only from around 3am Saurday morning (23rd). I have some infomercials at 2:50am that last for 51 hours 10 minutes (I know they always seem to be on but this is just silly :-)). Normal guide data resumes Monday morning.
If you record anything on TV3 over the weekend you better make sure your data is there or set up a manual recording....

Correct... this is actually a problem with the Sky Digital Guide. If you have a look at the EPG under Sky you will also find that they have Infomercials scheduled.

For what it's worth, I would be happy to provide an alternate host site for the guide data as a back up (for manual downloads) if it would help in these situations (though it would appear that since the emulator has no data either then this may not help in this particular case...)

Just looking at the slice file, (http://orac.caffeine.co.nz/nzdev.slice) it's about 1.42 meg which should have something contained within...
What about manually downloading it on your PC (mac?) and ftp'ing (binary mode) it across to your /tmp/ directory. then type
dbload30.tcl nzdev.slice
May work better...
When that's done, you may want to force an index by typing:
cd /var/hack/bin

Good luck.

I've switched to the nzdev slices on orac as well.
It looks very good, I have data for all the sky channels.
I had backed up my season passes etc using tivowebplus and restored them afterwards, (I had to remap the channels in the restore, it defaulted to CNN) but it didn't pickup any of the upcoming shows in the todo list.
Either you must reindex or something like that or something in the passes doesn't match.
I recreated a season pass from the tivo remote interface and that picked up the incoming shows.
So, not a big thing but something to be aware of.

Yes ... season passes will need to be re-done. The programme and episode numbers on the development system will not match the main system. So this mismatch will mean any previous s/passes will not work.
As for the dump from grid, I've only seen that while the tivo is still indexing.

Hi,
Just wondering if me (as a very novice TIVO'er) should just wait for things to right themselves with the help of the Gods I call "TIVO data creator people" or should I be doing this whole Dev slice thing?
backing up lists etc sounds a bit scary, but I don't have many so I could rebuild.
But if the emulator is likely to have a working slice in the next 24 - 48 hours I can hang out for that I guess.
Any ideas TIVO data creator gods/people?

Ok, so as many have noted, Timmy's site is down. The main emulator (not the devel one) pulls the data from Timmy's site, so if it's down the emulator gets no data. I've sent notes to Timmy and Jaidev to see what we can sort out. One option would be for Jaidev to upload direct to the emulator, so that may be the solution if Timmy's site is going to be down for a bit. I'll advise as as soon as I hear anything from either of 'em(if they don't post it here as well).
Meanwhile, as has been noted, the dev emulator seems to work, but will hose any existing season passses and such, and appears to be a relatively big jump. So it's your call what you wan't to do... I'm aware of the issue an on it, but largely dependent upon at least Jaidev (if it's decided to just upload the slices direct) and possibly Timmy (if the current situation stays the same).

If it would help, I could setup another emulator on orac for the live stuff (ie: non development) now that I know how to do that.
The data/slices would have to be uploaded by somebody though.

Wouldn't make any difference at the moment... Problem is slice supply to the emulator. The emu is happily chugging away, but there's no data to feed it for distribution.

Could DJC's slices on orac be converted to work with the current emulator, so it matches the current setups.
The actual data is there and works (that's what I am currently using).

Dunno... If the channels are the same format, it would at least populate something, though the series IDs and such would be hosed (and therefore season passess and such would likewise be hosed). Any idea if it's using the same channel IDs?
Problem here is that I use a slightly different method to build the slices since I'm pullng data from the soon to be 'community' database ... and as a result have a different set of episode, series and program numbers in the slice file.
I can quickly deliver a set of intermediate files for jaidev whilst timmy is offline.

Yes, spot on Ed, channel ids are same .. the dev emulator is currently running same headends as the main/your emulator and all guide data channel's match this. See previous post on progs/series records and episode numbers.
[Next stage in development is to create headends directly from mysql, but that probably won't happen till I get back... unless someone volunteers (I've coded up the base extracation mechanism ... but thats a disuscussion for the dev forum)]

If that's the case, is there any benefit to doing this over swapping to the dev slice ?

Ok, Timmy's back and there's a new slice waiting at the emulator, so call away...

I just made a call - "Failed. Service unavailable". :(
Finally time to make the switch to the emulator??

Did you change the ip address in loadguide.conf to the new (temporary) server?

Hi,
I guess I'm not the only one who came out of the last week with NO data at all - then getting data on Mon/Tues but with TV3 running out at 11am today (thursday)....And I just noticed I have nothing on discovery also but I have data on other channels as far ahead as Sunday.
Hoping Friday's slice will add TV3 and Discovery back into the mix !
Cheers

No, there were some issues with data last week (on the main emulator), fixed apparently on Monday. I currently have guide data for all channels, with at least channels 2&3 going through to Tuesday next week.
Perhaps you should try manually downloading the data for the time being.

Thanks for thje advice. Yeah I got what looked like all channel data on Monday but TV3 just ran out early while other channels have data for longer periods.
Being a complete unix novice and a happy emulator user....
Do I just FTP the file from Orac and get it onto my Tivo. THen run some command to load that file?
I will take a look at the NZ Tivo site and hopefully there is a HowTo..
I did load the NoNag Slice a few months back but forgotten how I did it !!
And lastly, if I load the odd slice manually it won't effect future (eg: Tomorrow/Friday's) emulater slice grab?
Cheers
Bruce
Telnet your tivo
wget the nztivo.slice can do it from the tmp dir or other location if you have a slice dir etc.
cd /tmp
wget 210.48.107.133/slice/nztivo.slice
/hack/bin/dbload30.tcl ./nztivo.slice
Will do the trick for you.
Manual load of slice should not affect future emulator ops. Its a slice so the next slice will load in sequence (its slice number will be > than current).
