I installed a 1TB WD EARS HDD on Thursday. 99% OK but I have a question for those who may have done a similar upgrade.
When it's quiet, or if I place my ears close to the TiVO, I can hear the hard drive moving. Not the light crunching sound of reading/writing to the HDD (or whatever it is makes that sound) but more the sound of vibration from the HDD moving, being transfered through its casing and the Tivo box. Is that to be expected/common?

A second related question. What do others do ... hold on to the old drive as is or reformat and use as a general extra drive? (Seems a waste to just put it aside on a 'maybe' basis.)
Thanks

That's normal. Nothing to worry about.
As for what to do with the 160GB: That is your choice.
However I strongly suggest if you do not wish to keep it "just in case" you at least use WinMFS to save the TiVo operating system to a file on your PC and then burn this file onto a CD. It will save you the hassle of asking someone for the base operating system when your hard disk fails.

I bought some of these and used the rubber rings between the chassis and the HDD frame. They seem to have done the trick.

Hi so I have FINALLY used WINMFS to Upgrage my 120GB disk to a 500GB disk...
I am getting "Segmentation Errors and it runs real slow, and reboots every now and then...
Any clues on what has happended?
New disk is a Seagate 7200.10 500GB.
I used WINMFS to coy old Tivo disk via USB and new disk was on secondary master.
Any idea?
