Surround Sound

I understand that surround sound does not work in Oz, is it possible to modify Tivo (Philips 212) to ouput 5.1 signals

i doubt it, but im a complete newbie to tivo!

for starters, the series one tivo doesn't have a dolby 5.1 or dts 5.1 decoder on board so you'd have to stream the audio out via optical or coax digital to your reciever/amp but i don't see any of those interfaces on the back of the unit. ( only L/R stereo )

i've got foxtel's 'new' digital service where some of the pay movies are in dolby digital 5.1 ( if you use the optical out on the pace STB ) but other than that there isn't much 5.1 stuff available anyway so tivo not having surround sound is no biggie to me :)

The TIVO supports stereo only - if your surround processor has a Dolgy Prologic II or one of the Matrix decoders it can mimic Surround but that is the best you will get
