Any suggestions as to make/model of a suitable HDD to replace my dead one?
Bought a Western Digital Caviar Blue 250Gb one this morning, then, luckily before I opened the packaging, had a vague memory of reading of problems, did a search and found several threads relating to problems with these drives. But decent size IDE drives seem to be like hens teeth here in NZ!
Anyone had positive results with a SATA/IDE adapter?

I have only ever seen one IDE-Sata adaptor that worked, but that was years ago. I have tried dozens since, but have not found another. Samsung drives have worked fine for me, as have Seagates (if you only use a single drive).

This looks to be a really good option:

Any experience/comments?

I have not used Hitachi's since the Deathstar problems a few years ago.

Their new drives are hopefully better.

I think may you have made a typo when searching.

Try this Google (http://www.google.com.au/search?q=hitachi+deathstar) search for "Hitachi Deathstar".

There are over 20,000 hits.

I only searched within the Oztivo forums!
