Dear Members,

Thanks to Darren I learned a lot more about my Tivo and how to get it running. While I succeeded in putting the Pillips image to work, for some reason the Tivo's analogue tuner does not show the channels as expected. Details are not necessary but Darren reminded me of the option to get an STB, the "better solution" to all my trouble.

Darren made me aware of the compatibility list shown on:
http://www.oztivo.net/twiki/bin/view/Install/GuidedSetup16#Setting_Up_Your_Infrared_Control

Also, I found this one:
http://oztivo.phoenixdigital.com/stb_browse.php

Anyway, my goal is to buy a cheap SD box that works with the Tivo. My problem is that it appears to be the case that most of these boxes are not at this point in time anymore. I considered e.g. the current Dick Smith promotional offers (Dgtech 2410SD

or the Bush units they have for 37 and 60 dollars),

All three units are not on the list.

What should I do? Does anybody know if e.g. the DSE offers would work? I searched online but again, hard to find something in the lower price range that is on the list.

If you know a model that is working and supplied online, please let me know.

Best,
EZ

Look for the Olin HVBT1800/2000 or Hailo HDSTB8000 (all the same inside, just different boxes) These are HD STB's so you get the extra channels. They cost from about $88 online (https://crazystu.com.au/hailo-hd-digital-set-top-box-hdstb8000-free-freight-p-434.html) to $129 at Kmart when not on sale.

A good cheap SD STB is the Kross Brand usually sold by Woolworths.

Also check the Codes Database (http://www.oztivo.net/tivo-bin/irdatabase.cgi) for all current codes.

Peter.

Thank you very much for your input! How can I register for that website. It says I am not allowed to register? Thanks again for your help!

Hello OzTivo members,
Thanks for all the tips and hints! I have done some local research and DSE has the DG-HD3800 on sale for $89 (that one is on the list. I was wondering if I should go with that one or if the Hailo is significantly better so that I should order ot online for the same price. Thanks for letting me know.

Also, I have a Toshiba LCD 32WLT66 something (I am not at home right now). I could not get any of the Toshiba codes to work with my Tivo remote. Any other code that could work? If not, what remotes do people buy so they can have TV and Tivo controlled by one remote?

Thank you for all your help!

I doubt you will find anyone who can compare the 2 STB's. But I have both the Olin and Hailo and I'm happy with both.

For the TV, try method B (http://www.oztivo.net/twiki/bin/view/IR/MakeRemoteContolTV).
