hi, tivo newbie here...bought the tivo of a friend, everything works great, i thought 120gb was enough for my tivo, but already run out of space, tried to copy recorded programmes to pc, but without any luck...all I get is a partial download(file size ranges from 5kb - 5mb) of any programme I try to download.
Using tyshow...i can refresh & get the now showing list, but when i select a prog. to upload to pc, it just downloads the first few seconds and thats it.
Can someone please help me with this?
Thanks

Hi Wt,
Welcome to the Group.
I have moved your post to a more appropriate location, as your issue doesn't really apply to installing the image and also not NZ specific, this is a better location to recieve replies from a wider community.

Now as far as your question goes, what method are you using to transfer the shows?
For example do you have a network card in your TiVo and if so do you know what type (Airnet,Turbonet(or compatibles),Cachecard) or do you use a serial cable.

thanks for the welcome pete.. Im using a network card, that is connected to my router via a switch. Don't know what network card I have, it was already installed.
The process I used to try & extract is from this guide: http://www.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Videoextract/DownloadVideoUsingTytool

There is something we can do if your TiVo is using a turbonet style card, but won't work with a cachecard
To see which you have try this in Telnet.
[TiVo [p0] ~]# lsmod
Post the results here.

Ok, you have a regular Turbonet style card.
now to check your timings, try:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# cat /etc/oztivo.conf

[TiVo [p1] ~]# cat /etc/oztivo.conf

# Please do not edit this file
# Put the TiVo disk back in your PC to reconfigure
nic=TurboNet
ip=DHCP
mac=00:0B:AD:10:10:10

Ok, now try:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# rw
[TiVo [p0] ~]# echo "timing=16" >> /etc/oztivo.conf
[TiVo [p0] ~]# ro
[TiVo [p0] ~]# reboot
Give the TiVo a little while to setlle after the reboot, then try the transfers again.

I had the same thing and fixed it by changing the option in TYtools from double socket connection to single socket. The socket fix didn't work for my friend though.

thanks for the reply Pete & also Skolink for helping me out. It is downloading more than before ~90mb file of a half an hour show, just sort of times out. I left it for about 45 mins but didnt download anymore.

Can you do a cat /etc/oztivo.conf just to make sure the timing has been set.
Also you may want to try using mfs_ftp for the transfer instead, I use it all the time without any hassles.

It's there, ill try using the other method ...mfs_ftp, thanks Pete.

# Put the TiVo disk back in your PC to reconfigure

what is the physical route between the Tivo and your PC?
Also do you have any torrent programs or other download/upload program running in the background?
Peter.

Route is from my pc > switch2 > tivo
Switch2 is connected to switch1.
Switch1 is directly connected to my router(running dhcp).
On switch2: xbox, tivo, wii & 2 pcs running
On switch1: network printer, 2 pcs
Maybe I should connect switch1 directly to the router?
Not on all the time, but using Downthemalll, dl manager plugin for firefox.

There should be no issues running through 2 switches, though if you are able to also connect switch 2 directly to the router, that would generally be better (but not effect your current issue).
The only other thing I could suggest is, unplug the xbox, Wii, printer and other 3 PC's in case one is flooding your connection, causing the TiVo to timeout.
Also if your TiVo is not recording, then remove the video input cable this will stop the TiVo from spooling live TV giving the processor more grunt to serve the files.
As a last step you could remove the drive from the TiVo and try direct extraction in a PC. The transfer is much faster, but a little more tedious.

Thanks Pete, your timing suggestion fixed the problem for my friend who was previously unable to extract shows, and who had previously tried setting TyTools to single socket.

No worries,
We will probably set it to defualt to 16 on the next image.

hi, been busy with work, so haven't worked on my problem for awhile.
I've noticed when I run mfs_ftp..i get this msg in telnet, I start to download & when I lose connection/timeout from my tivo...it brings this up:
[TiVo [p2] ~]# couldn't open socket: address already in use
while executing
"socket -server newcsocket $port"
(procedure "setup_control_socket" line 4)
invoked from within
"setup_control_socket $info(port)"
(procedure "reset_control_socket" line 9)
invoked from within
"reset_control_socket"
(procedure "init_procs" line 13)
invoked from within
"init_procs"
(file "/var/mfs_ftp/mfs_ftp.tcl" line 1534)
To run mfs_ftp on my tivo:
-I first connect to tv through tlnet, then enter this cmd: /var/mfs_ftp/mfs_ftp.tcl
-then I use flashfxp to connect to tivo: using ip 10.0.0.3:3105

The error messages are normal when mfs_ftp drops out.
Did you try what I suggested in Post #17?
Peter.

Yes I've tried everything you've suggested except taking out the hard drive.
Just a bit scared to take it out, is it the same process as taking out a pc hd?

So to clarify, you removed everything from switch2 except the PC and the TiVo?
Whatever the problem is, it's unlikely removing the drive will help.
Peter.

Yes I've tried everything you've suggested except taking out the hard drive.
In your ftp program make sure it only uses 1 connection/thread at a time to the Tivo.
A lot of ftp clients these days use multiple connections and that juts confuses the tivo.
