Further to my previous post: http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=1706
It's connected by a patch cable to a Dynalink Adsl modem and wireless router. I'm using a Mac with OS X 10.5 and from Terminal can ping both to the Tivo and also to the emulator address but can't make the set up call from the Tivo to the emulator. I can also check and alter the /etc/tclient.conf to try the different emulator addresses or ports.
I'm stumped and a little frustrated. Can anybody offer any ideas, please? (Except Philips and a PC!)
At this stage I only want to set up for aerial input and I'm in the Tauranga/Mount area. I'm unsure as to whether we get the Auckland or Hamilton TV signal as it comes to us via Te Aroha, as does the Hamilton signal for the Waikato.
I'd really like to get it going and I'd love to be able to contribute to the efforts that created and maintain these forums.
Please, please, please what shall I try next?

Have you tried pinging the emulator (210.48.107.133) from the TiVo (logged in via telent)?

Have you tried pinging the emulator (210.48.107.133) from the TiVo (logged in via telent)?
Sorry for the delay. Can't seem to reach the emulator, result posted below:
PING 210.48.107.133 (210.48.107.133): 56 data bytes
ping: sendto: Network is unreachable
Any ideas, please?

Try these (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Network/NetworkingHowto#Configuration_and_Diagnostics) tests and let us know the results.

Peter, thanks for your prompt reply. I've run the diagnostics and will attach them below.
Thanks, Simon

Did you install the cachecard yourself?
Did you use the Silicon Chip drivers?
Assuming 192.168.1.1 is your routers address try:
route add default gw 192.168.1.1
traceroute -n 210.48.107.133

I am using an older version of the NZ 2.5.5 image, so it may not be identical, but:
1) The cachecard drivers were out of date so I had to install the newest one myself (Hopefully this has been done in the latest NZ image)
2) The route command is a link to route.fake, which does nothing. If this is the same on your tivo (likely since you said route returned nothing), you'll need to modify the first command petestrash gave you to:
route.tivo add default gw 192.168.1.1

Peter,
I fitted the Cachecard myself. (guilty!)
I tried your suggestion about the add default gateway and got no response, I then tried Catdog's suggestion and got the following response:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# route add gw 192.168.1.1
[TiVo [p0] ~]# route.tivo add default gw 192.168.1.1
SIOCADDRT: File exists
Then on the traceroute I got:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# traceroute -n 210 48.107.133
traceroute: "48.107.133" bad value for packet length
[TiVo [p0] ~]# traceroute 210.48.107.133
traceroute to 210.48.107.133 (210.48.107.133), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets
1 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 1.990 ms 1.315 ms 1.198 ms

3 * * *
4 * * *
5 * * *
6 * * *
7 * * *
8 * * *

Is there a way to stop the traceroute? I had to quit Terminal to abort it as I figured the nine sets of asterisks would probably tell you enough.

you should be able to Ctrl C the traceroute. That should (in theory) kill most UNIX processes that are running in the foreground.
Simon, when you start up your TiVo do you get the Silicon Dust splash page and does it go through the Cacheing , Verifying, etc. procedure ok? It took the Thompson I was working with about 3 or 4 minutes to go through all that before it even dropped me into the TiVo Menu/Guided Setup.

I am not too familiar with the UK image, but I know that if you use the Silicon Dust driver install package on a TiVo running the US based Oztivo image it really buggers up things sometimes making the tivo even unbootable. This is why we say not to use the Silicon Dust installers here (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Software/InstallCacheCardAndDrivers). Of course just updating the drivers is fine, just don't use thier instsller to do it. Copy the files instead.
As I don't have a Thomson, I can't really assist in trying to bring back your system. Possibly Ben may be able to talk you through it.
Peter.

I'm afraid I don't have a Thomson either. I did manage to get one up and running but it was with a TurboNet card (I got bored of waiting 5 minutes to boot up with a Cachecard in it!) and it's now gone back to it's owner. I did hit the same sort of problems that Simon's hitting though. My problem is that as there was no magic line of UNIX that solved it immediately I'm still slightly in the dark as to what I did. I can take you through the same steps I took but it may or may not make the difference...

Peter,
I neglected to answer the question about drivers for the cachecard.
The image was downloaded and installed to HD.
No other drivers have been loaded. The questions during the install of the image were answered to suit a cachecard.
I've read Ben's comment about the Cachecard startup delay and I've never experienced that, so I've been and taken the cover off the Tivo and checked the cachecard. There are two lights, lit, on it, Power and Link.
I rebooted and watched for the cachecard screen and when it came up, it read: Cachecard Driver Version1 and below that Error.
As a precaution, I removed the Dimm from it and rebooted but got the same result.
What now, please?
Please excuse me for not printing thanks to all concerned on postings but I'm trying to keep things concise. But rest assured, all contributions are greatfull received.

I have 2 Thomson units, 1 running a Cachecard and the other running a turbonet haven't had the issues your experiencing.
I built the NZ Thomson image and it should have the 20050218 drivers which support the Cachecard.
You receiving the "Cachecard Driver Version1 and below that Error" screen indicates the driver is incorrect or the card is at fault.
You should have a directory located here,
/var/hack/nic_install_tivo_20050218
change to the dir and issue a ./nic_install_tivo cachecard
configure the network settings
When you reboot the tivo if you have the correct drivers, you should get this screen after the Welcome, Powering Up screen.

If you don't have a nic_install_tivo_20050218 directory, then follow these instructions to download and update the driver.

jaidev,
Thank you very much. I followed your advice and gained a blue screen as you showed and it's now contacted the emulator and is busy processing things.
The latest drivers were there but not being utilised.
So, this has solved the issue of communicating with the mother ship, now to get a headend organised....
Is it worth discussing it here, or should i address it directly to DJC?
Many thanks to all respondents, all advice was gladly received.
Please feel free to contact me if I can help at all.

Allis/was going well. Had a couple of seemingly successful calls to the emulator but there was no guide data to be had. Noticed the date was May 2010, have settime to current date and year plus time. Now I have guide data until 19/4. Looking goo.
But (isn't there always a but?) whereas, prior to being able to contact the outside world, I could get TivoWebPlus ok, now that it's made a few calls I keep getting a "The connection was refused when attempting to contact 192.168.1.10." when trying form the same browser as before.
I've had a look about the twiki, with limited success and have tried the following:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# ps ax | grep TivoWeb
272 p0 SW 0:00 grep TivoWeb
I'm a little unsure as to how to interpret this. Does it mean it's there but not running? If so, how do I start it, please?

It is not running, a reboot should start it. If not, we should find out why.
try:
[TiVo [p0] ~]# cat /var/log/tivoweb.log
This will show TiVoWeb's log and hopefully the reason it is not starting.

Peter,
Thanks once more for responding.
Rebooted and tried you suggestion, which yielded:

I think I see two possible problems, namely:
retrying after errTmActiveLockConflict ...
-error initializing channel table; aborted
Unless it's a "version" thing

Further to my last post, I'm temporarily running on a neighbouring postcode and only get two channels and they're transposed, between Tivo saying it's TV3 but the program content being C4 and the other way round on C4 by Tivo which is TV3 content.
Thought I'd mention that in case it's confusing things.

The errTmActiveLockConflict I think is just the TiVo was busy, so not an issue.
I haven't seen the Channel error before, but according to the log TiVoWb has started and is running.

Your version of TWP is quite old.
You should go here (http://thomson.tivo.googlepages.com/tivowebplus) and download the lastest TWP V1.3.1 or even upgrade to 2.0.0.

After some hours of bashing and crashing, I've updated to tivowebplus-v1.3.1-071214.tgz, being the latest version shown on the link you sent.
The instructions on the link said to replace:
# Start TiVoWeb
/hack/tivoweb-tcl/tivoweb &
with:
# Start TivoWebPlus
/var/hack/TivoWebPlus/tivoweb &
However they were both there, so I've removed the former and now have TivoWebPlus available on my computer.
Can you confirm that this was an ok course of action or can I expect some later ramifications?
Once more, many thanks are due.
