Hi,
I really need help with my Tivo. I might be doing something stupid, or it might have a hardware problem. Either way it will probably take me a long time to work it out & I'd love it if someone who has done this before (and can diagnose call-in problems) could take it away, fix it, and then I'd pay them a little bit of money.
I have a series one Philips with a network card that I bought from George years ago. I put in a new hard drive with the OzTivo image soon after I bought it. It will boot up, but it won't do the first call-in. I don't know why. I haven't used it for years. I'd love to have it working so I could give it to my in-laws.
I live in north Melbourne near Preston, and I work in South Melbourne. If you can help me, please let me know.
Cheers,
Mark

I'm assuming that you have a working network connection between the tivo and your router, that the link light on your router is lit indicating such.

I'm also assuming that between your first attempt years ago and now you have at least downloaded/installed/configured the latest image and still having no luck?

I will stress that even though someone *could* take it away and set it up for you this is no guarantee that it will work on return for reasons external to the tivo itself, like a "transparent proxy" issue with your ISP or a router/network mis-configuration.

Thanks Darren,
My router lights flicker, so it's connecting there.
I haven't installed a new image. I only have a laptop now, so I can't replace its hard drive. Do you know if I can re-image the HD if I bought an external HD case and stuck it in that?
It could indeed be router/network mis-configuration, but I don't know how to check this or start to fix it.
Re "transparent proxy", my ISP is AAPT, are they ok/not/don't know?
Cheers,
Mark

Try the following on your PC

Download WinPcap_4_0_1.exe (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/viewfile/Network/BypassTransparentProxyServer?rev=1;filename=WinPca p_4_0_1.exe) to any location and install it.

Then download tracetcp-0.99.4beta.zip (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/viewfile/Network/BypassTransparentProxyServer?rev=1;filename=tracet cp-0.99.4beta.zip) to any location and then unzip it into your root directory (c:\).

Open a command prompt and make sure you are in the root directory (cd \), then run the following commands.

C:\tracetcp ftp.monash.edu.au:ftp

C:\tracetcp ftp.monash.edu.au:http

You will get a number of lines displayed over a period time after each command. Once complete compare the first few hops of the ftp with the http output. if they differ then there is a good chance of a transparent proxy being involved.
