Hi, I have just reimaged my drive and can't get the correct postcode/headend to set up for Christchurch,

1) The FTA channels are not mapping correctly, ch2 is showing tv3, prime is not tuning in at all etc, I know I can remap via channelmap but this has not been a permanent solution in the past, requiring frequent remapping so would rather get it setup right in the headend, am I missing something?

2) I have added a STB ok, but How do I add Aurora ( SBS/Ch7) - I have SBS/Ch7 reception working fine from the stb on TV so its just getting into the tivo is the challenge now, has someone solved it ?

Its a PAL Mod'ed S1 Philips Tivo, set up for Chch FTA plus feed the STB via the AV inputs to provide Freeview & Aurora.

advice please?

thanks.

Just checking, I have not seen a PAL Mod'ed S2 TiVo. Are you sure it's not an S1?

Peter.

As for the remapping, there is a nation wide fta postcode (02120) that has been set up to have the correct order of the fta channels without remapping.
Details of it are detailed in this thread.
http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=1537

This has worked for me to avoid the remapping when the lineup changes.
To use it, just override the frequency the pal tuner uses using the palmod utility (or, just edit the config file) to set the frequency to match your local broadcast frequency.

I would assume that this postcode will co-exist with the freeview postcode, but, I don't have freeview as I have a very good signal off air, and, I don't need the epg - due to owning the Tivo :)

DOlsen, could you just clarify that? I know I have to use PalMod -> (3, 3, 2, 7, 5.) to select the NZ frequency table. Is this what you mean, or is there another palmod setting I should change?

Also, to use this postcode, a relevant quote from http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=1537&page=2:
"don't forget to add the new postcode to /etc/postcodezones or else you will get the clock warped issue...."

I was meaning the fine tuning parameter to match the local broadcast frequency of the channels, using the palmod_config program, or, just editing the /etc/palmod.conf file directly.
I.e. My config file has the following in it (Wellington frequencies)
f_tune="2:182250,3:224250,4:55250,5:783250,6:655250,7:7512 50,8:623250"

As for the postcodes file,
ensure /etc/postcodezones file has the line

02120 Pacific/Auckland

in it, or, you will eventually have a clock warped issue (your season passes will no longer work)

I thought I would give this a go with ozTivo 1.6.2. I think it has worked, but the channels are not working (to be expected at this stage).

Cool, I think I can do that. The only problem is that I don't know the christchurch frequencies. I did a search, but drew a blank. Is there a list somewhere of the channels and the frequencies for each NZ city? I do no the channels in Christchurch, but I don't think that will do me much good:

Using Postcode 02112, the christchurch FTA frequencies and channels are:
TV1 = 3
TV3 = 6
TV2 = 8
C4 = 11
AM = 39 ( amateur TV hackers..)
CTV = 44
Maori = 46
VTV = 52
CTV = 53 (no signal for me)
Prime = 62
NOTE: 42 = Something. Not sure, but Watermarked "Arirang" and "Korean Global TV"

I wish I had taken a note of the freq's before I reimaged, but I could not find them - great to know they are in palmod.conf

Following on:-

Can someone post what they believe to be the correct channels for CHCH... or confirm the below thanks.

We are currently running the following:-

Station Channel
-----------------
TV1 3
TV2 8
TV3 6
C4 11
CTV 44
VTV 52
CTV 53
Prime 62
Maori 46
AmTV 39

There are around 10 users running this config and some have been for quite some time...

And according to NoSignal we can also add "Arirang 42" to the list.

Aha, http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=101&highlight=christchurch+channels&page=3 mentions a conversion table that converts from channel to frequency:

Band Channel Frequency
------ -------- -----------------
VHF-Lo Ch 1 45250
VHF-Lo Ch 2-3 41250+(ch*7000)
VHF-Hi Ch 4-11 147250+(ch*7000)
UHF Ch 20-69 303250+(ch*8000)

So I made a little excel spreadsheet so that people can work this out easy like. See attached.

So, the results for postcode 02120, for Christchurch are:

02120 Station My Station Channel Frequency
TV1 TV1 3 62250
TV2 TV2 8 203250
TV3 TV3 6 189250
C4 C4 11 224250
Prime Prime 62 799250
Maori Maori 46 671250
TAB CTV 44 655250
Eight VTV 52 719250
Nine AM 39 615250

NOTE: I have used replacements for TAB, Eight and Nine.

Ok, DJC, so using my spreadsheet, I get (untested):

My Station Channel Frequency
TV1 3 62250
TV2 8 203250
TV3 6 189250
C4 11 224250
CTV 44 655250
VTV 52 719250
CTV 53 727250
Prime 62 799250
Maori 46 671250
AmTV 39 615250
Arirang 42 639250

Though, according to http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=1537&page=2 the listing for postcode 02120 is in a different order, so I'm a little confused. Either DJC was not being specific to 02120 (understandable, given the topic of this thread), or I don't fully understand the situation (also quite possible).

Huh?? postcode 02120 is for those using a VCR as an external tuner.

Are you using a VCR or are you using a PAL modded Tivo. If the later you should be using the CHCH headend and it should just work. You channels appear the same as the emulator.

For CHCH if you are using a us model you can use the FTA 02112 composite headend and select CHCH. If you have a UK unit you'll need to use the 02123 headend.

Hi,

In his first post in the thread, Grant states that the channels are not mapped correctly, ch2 is showing tv3 etc. This, I take it, is because he was using the Christchurch fta postcode with a pal modded box. He then goes on to state "I know I can remap via channelmap but this has not been a permanent solution in the past, requiring frequent remapping"

This is the same problem that I had which prompted me to request the 02120 code off you - the remapping was not always in time, and I'd miss shows (because I couldn't live with the channels being out of order).

Using the 02120 postcode, with a pal modded tivo, allows you to have the channels in logical order, and they won't be moved when a headend change is made.

Doing this means that it won't "just work" however, you need to change the fine tuning parameters to match the local broadcast frequencies.

Looking at the preceding posts in this thread, it would appear the correct data to add to the /etc/palmod.conf file is

f_tune="1:62250,2:203250,3:189250,4:224250,5:799250,6:6712 50,7:655250,8:719250,9:615250"

if you use the 02120 postcode for a pal modded box, and live in Christchurch.

So, if you want a easy - straight working pal modded tivo, use the Christchurch fta postcode (02123 or 02112). The tivo will "just work", however, the stations will not be in a logical order (ch1 is tv1, ch2 is tv3, ch3 is tv2). If you remap these channels, it will work, but, is at risk of being changed if the headend changes.

If you want the channels in the correct order, with no risk of being remapped, use the 02120 postcode. The disadvantage of this postcode however is that it does not include the regional channels.

Note - there's no space in the f_tune line in the preceding post, even if it looks like there is...

Yep, it worked as expected. So I can now confirm postcode 02120 also works on the ozTivo Image 1.6.2. I can;t see any advantages to using the nzTivo image at the moment (other than maybe Freeview in the distant future), but then that is the topic of another thread.

For the reference of others, nztivo continues to recommend new installs use the NZ specific images at this time.

Thanks Gents, all the above looks damn useful, I've been off air with a PC drive crash which led to a virus cripple my lappy and two screwed tivos for 10days now, not a happy home! hammerometer and disinfectant to hopefully cure all that this weekend...

WRT 02120 - I have both a palmodded box and another using VCR tuner, and I've never been able to get conflict resolution to work, which I put down to having two different headends, I assume a bonus of using 2120 on both will be that conflict resolution might now kick into life...nice work..

The swine of it is that apart from Prime I'd be quite happy to just rely on Freeview boxes on both machines.

standby for happiness and joy..
