I have setup a wiki here...

http://www.tvschedules.net.nz

as you can see that is the address for my soon to be completed tvschedules site but for now it is doubling as NZ Tivo wiki (my site hosting allows two domains so Jaidev is happy to point the domain he is getting setup to this site). Note the wiki is pretty basic, double click on a page to edit it. no restrictions as of yet. check the FAQ page for an example of a good page. straight from my tjv.info site, hehe.

anyway, i know at least one other person is experimenting with wiki's at the moment so we'll see. ie this is not permanent yet... tell us what u think. got a better alternative by all means share ;)

I like this wiki because its reasonably simple. u can pretty up the stylesheet reasonably easily and the editing is pretty straightforward.

ps the wiki idea is a little confusing for those not familier with them. go nuts don't worry if u mess something up...

tips: double click on whitespace to edit a page. To create a new page click inside the header at the top of the page and type in a suitable title for your page. The 'lost and found' will show any wiki pages that aren't being linked (ie orphaned).

nb there's a couple of little page display quirks but i think i can iron those out easily enuf.

grr sorry guys u can't actually edit any pages yet as i have to get a virtual directory set up with write permissions. unfortunately need to send a request to my hosting company to get that done. annoying. will be ready shortly...

Hey nice work tim ( yet again!)

whats your thinking - have discussion forum here on oztivo and docs/ results/ final info recorded on wiki?

I'm working thru the FTA/nicam nightmare and the threads have become split between my original post ( PAL Tuner in NZ? ) and yems thread (FS: 80Gb TiVo w/ palmod & cachecard)

this thread needs to be recollated and filed for the next poor fool ;) although its still in progress...

I'd like a copyright or similar notice on the wiki, similar to OzTiVo (http://minnie.tuhs.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/CopyRight)
can someone write one up please..

I've done one up, basically a copy of the OzTivo one and modified slightly for NZ. Hopefully they are ok with that. :) I didn't know what email address to use for the feedback link however.

You do know the irony of that don't you??

You have just broken the Copyright on the ozTiVo website, without asking us!?

Hi guys. Firstly, I want to say thanks heaps forum and for the wiki. However, I have had some huge frustrations that I wanted to give some feedback on.

In summary, I guess I wanted to know if the www.nztivo.net wiki is still used by anyone and if it is considered a useful source of information. In essence, is it worth my time contributing to it? I have put a lot of hours into it recently, but I'm not sure if it is worth continuing.

Below is the long version.

I guess it is my fault for making assumptions. I found www.nztivo.net, and even though it mentioned the ozTivo forums, I assumed 1) that forums on an Oz based site would not be that relevant, and 2) that the Wiki would have more useful howtos and tutorials.

So I started as something of a Tivo newbie in Feb06, but tried working my way through an old ozTivo manual install with 1.3 instructions at the www.nztivo.net wiki. I then realised there was a more up to date page on the wiki, so started following the 1.4 instructions (and modified the wiki to make it obvious which pages were obsolete). I had problems getting compatible IR signals to my VCR and gave up till Sept06 when I got a PAL tuner upgrade. I then tried ozTivo Image 1.5 and updated the wiki 1.4 instructions, but got stuck finding Free To Air channels, and with work getting heavy, left if for awhile.

Anyway, I recently started trying again, first by again trying to use my 1.5 image. Eventually I discovered that the emulator port had been changed, so I made the changes to my tivo and the wiki.
I then found that the ozTivo image is up to 1.6.2 and has improved a lot, so I imaged my tivo HDD with 1.6.2 and have updated the http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/ImageWithScreenShots1.4 to be relevant to v1.6.2 whilst keeping information unique to NZ. The key is that if you are copying information from another source that updates more consistently and reliablly than you, then you should always link to that source and tell people to check there for updates. So now it should be reliatively future proof.

Now, I just found the nzTivo image!! So was maybe all this wiki work has been a waste of time? But that is a conversation for another (http://forums.oztivo.net/showthread.php?t=1596) thread. But as you can imagine, I am pretty frustrated at this point. It would have only taken a single sentence with a link on 1 or 2 wiki pages to save me a whole heap of grief. Sadly but honestly, I would have been far better off if the Wiki had never existed, because then I would have kept searching and found these ozTivo forums. However, I am trying to update the wiki everywhere I can think of so that noone else has the same nightmare I've had.

I've also had a bit of a problem editing the wiki - some pages are not editable any more (I know they used to be). For example, since I have spent quite a few hours getting the ImageWithScreenShots1.4 page up to date, I would like to draw people's attention to this by editing the page's description at http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Topics but I don't have edit access on that page. So could a nztivo.net admin look at restoring edit access? If this is too difficult, could you please edit it to:
"1.4 to 1.6.2 (New Version). How to install the Tivo Operating System Image onto your large Hard Drive(s) - includes screen shots to help. Was originally written for OzTivo Image 1.4 (May 2005), but has been updated to help with OzTivo Image 1.6.2 (Nov 2006), and has tips on how to future-proof it (keep the NZ-specific information as well as the latest OzTivo changes."

I have also had similar problems at http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Turbonet - the link is now dead, but there are great pdfs are available at http://www.dvrupgrade.com/dvr/stores/1/install_instructions.cfm
And that they should then look at http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Networking and http://www.nztivo.net/index.php/Setup#Setting_up_Tivo_Networking for more information. Please tweak edit access on this page too or use the changes above.

I tried emailing the suggested contact (tivo@nztivo.net) 5 days ago, but got no response. I'll also try emailing/PMing timmy.

Thanks for your hard work updating the Wiki. I don't have any admin rights so I can't help with your requests though. I'm willing to help you set up your TiVo if you are still having problems (I'm in Chch too). Message or email me.

There maybe some disruptions to nztivo.net wiki in a couple of weeks. I am moving it to a new hosting provider. Will keep you updated.

Great to know it is still used and worth contributing to.

I would just reccommend that anywhere that it refers to versions of stuff it makes it clear they may not be up to date, and gives a link so users can check for latest update. I have done this a lot, and skolink did some too, so we are getting it into shape now.

And it now mentions the nzTivo image in a lot more relevant places.

Hi, access rights for "Current Events" page at nztivo.net wiki may be a little too public (login not required to update). I erased the profanities that were there.

Just noticed the the account for hosting nztivo.net has been suspended. Will the domain name be pointed to a new host? I could take over the domain name and hosting if no-one else is inclined.

Issues with the provider, Ill get it going again, and move it to my hosting provider.

I can give a couple of you a username and pwd if you would like to upgrade and tidy it up before I make a backup and move it later.

Thanks for getting nztivo.net up again. Can you please do a find-and-replace-all of "minnie.tuhs.org" with "www.oztivo.net". There are quite a few links.

yo .. I can help.
I have heaps of hosting in all sorts of places.

If others are interested in contributing to an NZ specific website I may be interested in providing the necessary stuff.

You may want to PM jaidev, as he does not visit the forums much anymore.
