Hey Guys,

My brother has just given me his Tivo as he has moved oversea's, now i have plugged it all in but was not getting any of the channels, i noticed it was still set to Melb, where as im in Syd. Not knowing it had special software installed on the hdd, ive just done a system restore, thought it would be good starting from stratch and would also clear out all his crap that he had recorded on it.

I have tried to ping it from my computer via wireless, but looks like it has whiped all the settings. My brother left the com port plug in melb, so my question being, how can i get it back up and running again. Am i just able to take the hdd out, connect it to my computer and install all the goodies onto it? i asked my brother this, but he was of the opinion it cant be done.

Your help on this matter would be GREAT !

hey mate,

very much appreicate your response, my question, the instructions you gave seem to be once the iso is installed? how do i install the iso, is it simply, burn iso to image take the hdd out of tivo, connect it to pc, load the bootable cd and follow the prompts ??

also, i have made up the com port cable, so i can connect my pc to the tivo, do i need to do anything with this once i have the image sorted out.

i have looked through the how to's etc, but ive found its not the most userfriendly layout, so havent found what im looking for.

sorry if i sound like a n00b, but this is just all new to me

its just as simple as u said. burn the iso to cd, connect hdd to computer, pop the cd in and simply press enter when "setup tivo disk" appears.

just a question....do u have a network card installed or will u be using the com port cable to connect to computer so it can connect to net?

just asking coz when ur installing image u have to change network settings. if u tell us the way ur gonna connect we can give u direct link to how to guide =)

dont worry i use to be a noob aswell lol =P

ahhhh you guys are true champions, :-)

easy as pie, installed the imagine and am running through the settings on the tivo now...the only annoying thing is, parents insist on watchin the tennis, so im going to have to wait, :mad:

im connecting through wireless now. i wont be asking my brother for advise again, he gave me all the wrong info, lol.
