Hi all,

Just still tinkering with the TiVo, I don't know if its common but in my FTA and Austar channel configuration, when I look at the menu to choose which channels are displayed, it lists from channel 0 to channel 999 and all the associated ones for the appropriate stations, but when I look at them through the program guide, the list starts at channel 182 then goes all the way through to channel 999 then starts from 0 then goes to channel 126. I'm missing a segment from 126 to 182 and the channel ordering is quite annoying. I only have a couple of the non-available FTA channels switched off.

I've tried restarting the box with no changes.

Any ideas?

Thanks

1. Go into TWP click on more...>MFS>Setup

2. Then click on the number next to Source =

3. Then click one of the numbers next to Headend =

4. If TmsHeadendId = NS2016 good, if not then go back to the previous page and select the other number next to Headend =

5. When TmsHeadendId shows NS2016, what do 'ServerVersion =' and 'Version =' show.

1. Go into TWP click on more...>MFS>Setup

2. Then click on the number next to Source =

There are 2 sources listed: 2274/12 2274/13

3. Then click one of the numbers next to Headend =

Under 2274/12, there is only 1 headend code: 2434/-1
Its TmsHeadendId = NS02016

Under 2274/13 There is only 1 headend code: 2908/-1
Its TmsHeadendId = NS02680

5. When TmsHeadendId shows NS2016, what do 'ServerVersion =' and 'Version =' show.

if NS02016 is the correct one, ServerVersion is 30 and Version is 1

Yeh, my fault I dropped the leading zero.

Ok ServerVersion = 30 is correct for the most recent lineup.

I can only assume something went wrong during GS. I don't know of an easy way to fix other than redoing GS again.

Peter.

PS are the missing channels shown in the add/remove channels section ?

Yes, they're in the add/remove channels section and they are ticked... With the Guided Setup, I ran it but it has all my defaults in the system already, is there a way to reset the software without reimaging?

Use TiVoWeb to enable "PAL Guided Setup" mode. Then reboot

Hi Peter,

I've selected set PAL guided setup mode and logged in via telnet and reboot. The screen says maintenance mode but when it starts up it brings the usual TiVo central start screen.

I've also done the same thing by selecting restart through the tivo screen menu and also tried turning power off at the main and still no GS mode.

At all times, I've been back to the sysAdmin options and made sure set PAL guided setup mode was selected.

Is there any other way to get into GS mode?

Vito

petestrash

once in maintenance mode, you can then go into Messages & Setup > System Reset > Repeat Guided Setup

Peter.

vmancini
25-01-2007, 02:55 PM
Done it, when I go through it, all the options have been pre-selected from the first install, they are all correct so I'm pretty much tapping the select button all the way through. The TV guide after the whole process looks exactly the same as before.

Is there any way to clear all those settings, eg channel data and all that so when I do the guided setup everything gets chosen properly?

Vito

Oh, I've been playing with GS any decided to select austar instead of austar digital just to see if I can fool TiVo into reselecting a fresh channel list of Austar and I have noticed that the channels in the TV guide loop back to the start when you scroll all the way through... my old configuration used to keep making a beeping noise when I got down to the bottom of the list (channel 126) and beep when I scrolled up to the top (channel 182) (refer to my 2nd post).

I thought the inability to scroll in a loop was normal, if that wasn't the case then the problem wouldn't be so bad. But it gets frustrating to go from say Showtime to the Fox8 because you have to scroll the long way through.

I might not have explained that as part of the problem before.

Anyway, my idea of trying to reselect austar digital didn't work... running out of ideas.

Vito

So you selected austar and completed gs, then went back to austar digital again without any change ?

Peter.

vmancini
26-01-2007, 10:26 AM
thats right. there's got to be some sort of DB or index file that I can clear. To me, it seems like TiVo remembers previous settings which is causing the grief.

Vito

There are two routes to try, the first is to really start from scratch (and probably best at this point), but will delete your recordings.

Use TiVoWeb to enable "PAL Guided Setup" mode. Then select Messages & Setup > System Reset > Clear & Delete everything. Which will restart a fresh GS.

The 2nd option if you wanted to keep recordings.

redo GS again as you have previously done, but this time replace austar with the same FTA selection you use for the other input.

Let the box reindex and settle for a few hours, then reboot.

Then telnet into your TiVo and get the command prompt. Change into the /tmp directory:

cd /tmp

Use a wget command to fetch a script from the Emulator, and make the script executable:

wget http://131.244.9.101/TiVo/files/scripts/sync_channels.tcl
chmod +x sync_channels.tcl

Now run the script:

/tmp/sync_channels.tcl -y

This should remove any remaining channel entries. reboot.

now finally do GS again an select Austar Digital.

Um, TiVo couldn't dial in so I checked the how-to's and added ,#401 to the dial prefix. But trouble's started when it says that there's no dial in numbers for 002 - I selected the option saying don't worry about it (something like that) and continued. I am faced with a whole heap of what looks like to be US regions. I think a little too much data got erased.

BTW I used area code 02000 and I have searched the posts for similar prob's, one person used the code 02114 and got around it, giving it a go now

Vito

petestrash
26-01-2007, 02:26 PM
2114 is a NZ code not for Australia.

How does your TiVo connect to the internet

vmancini
26-01-2007, 02:43 PM
through my ADSL router... the 02114 didn't change a thing, still no dial in numbers available

vmancini
26-01-2007, 05:59 PM
thats funny, I've tried countless times and it kept telling me there's no phone numbers with 002. I rebooted and now its found numbers for 002, connecting to download guide data now ...

Guess what... GS is complete and the problem still remains. I'll try the other option you listed and see what happens.

Wish me luck.

So just to confirm, you were still missing the same bunch of channels? The missing channels exist and are selected in 'channels you recieve', but don't appear when scrolling through the channels.

Chances are if the full clear and delete didn't do it for you, the other option is not likely to fix it either.

Sorry, I'm out of ideas apart from a complete reimage.

Anyone else have a suggestion?

Peter.

vmancini

Something is totally wrong with this TiVo. I have done a full re-image and the the problem still remains. Does anyone have an Austar Digital / Murrumbidgee FTA channel arrangement? Any troubles?

My uncle has a TiVo with the exact same arrangement setup about half a year ago (before a lot of new channels were added to Austar). No problems there.

My guess is that this is extremely weird. Since the software is new and the prob remains, can hardware be at fault?

Vito

petestrash
28-01-2007, 03:38 PM
I have a spare TiVo due next week. I'll run GS on it and see what comes up.

I doubt you have a hardware problem, but that said can't see where there is a software issue either.

Just to confirm when you re-imaged you:

1. choose the option to update the installer before loading the new image.
2. left all the channels you should recieve selected during GS
3. left the TiVo alone to do it's things for a few hours
4. ran the update_oztivo -y script then rebooted.

and you now still have:
132 Sci-Fi Sci Fi
150 FOX8+2 FOX8 +2
151 TV1+2 TV1 +2
152 CLAS+2 Fox Classics +2
153 CMDY+2 thecomedychannel +2
154 ARNA+2 Arena +2
155 W+2 W for Women
156 UKTV+2 UK.TV +2
157 LIFE+2 LifeStyle Channel +2
176 TVSN Television Shopping Network
177 EXPO Expo Channel

missing despite being selected in channels you recieve.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for giving it a go, it's getting frustrating.

I have done all except No.4 which I have just done... Does it take a while to update after reboot?

Just making it clear, in the tv guide when I scroll upwards and get to channel 182, the guide freezes and makes beeps for every channel up button pressed and vice versa for channel down. The guide flickers when you press up or down on the limits so I think the data may be there but TiVo won't display it... just a hunch.

Anyway, I'll take the box back to the TV and see if update_oztivo -y worked

BTW: All this testing and GS has been done without Austar or FTA plugged in, I don't have access near my computer. I doubt that TiVo is grabbing guide data off Austar but just letting you know.

Thanks again,

Vito

Actually to test my theory which I don't know why I haven't tried earlier, I typed in one of the missing channels whilst in the TV guide and bingo, the missing channels appear but all the other channels that used to be displayed are now gone... actually all gone except channels 126 and 182 (the boundary channels before are the boundary channels again)

So if I type in say number 401, the usual list of channels come up. Then, if I type in 132, the hidden channels come up. weird ey.

No difference, there is nothing that is grabbed from Austar. All data is grabbed only from our servers.

Hi Peter,

Just wondering if you've had a chance to play with the GS on your new TiVo? I've still got mine pulled apart, not too sure what to do with it.

My uncle has a TiVo with the Murrumbidgee FTA and Austar digital, its working fine... only issue is that its running version 1.4... Any big differences? If it comes down to it, is there a possiblility of reimaging either to a fresh copy of 1.4 or somehow copying his disk image and placing it on my one?

Thanks,

Vito

It's best not to ask about the spare TiVo    as the A**hole seller has sent it surface rather than EMS despite the fact I paid the agreed $90 for EMS shipping. So I will now only have a spare in about 2-3 months

I have another TiVo setup for testing as well usually recording Pay Tv. there is a gap in the todo list tonight between midnight and 5am. If I'm still up, I'll give it a go tonight.

There are no differences between r1.4 and r.15 which would effect channel allocation.

But certainly you could copy your uncles drive and it should bypass the problem you are seeing.

Peter.

Darren King

can hardware be at fault?

No. (edit: well, ok... doubtful. But never known channels missing to be attributed to a hardware problem as it is more a database held as files on the hard disk).

Oh great

OK... in that case would one of you two give me a brief explanation of what you want a TiVo set up as lineup wise, what version of software, and what the problem is and I'll crank up a spare chassis in the test rack later tonight and see what happens.

petestrash

Thanks Darren,

No need, unless you want to have a play yourself. (2 sources,02000,002,Austar Dig,Murrumbidgee FTA,any stb for austar)

I have given it a try tonight and get the same results as Vito.

The problem is not really a big deal as it only effects the TiVo overlay guide when using the 'liveTv/Guide' button on the remote. the channel up/down function is not affected, nor is TiVO sending IR to the 'missing channels' for recordings.

I have found cause of the problem to be duplicate channels in the headend :) . Previously I was looking for the missing channels, but this was a red herring:rolleyes: .

I have an interim solution for you Vito, until I fix the headends sometime next week.

Go into Channels you recieve and de-select both 0 - NoNag channels, de-select either of the 126 - ABC2 channels, and de-delect either of the 182 - ACC channels. Also de-select any channels (Austar or FTA) that you don't recieve. Then press right arrow to store the settings. This will fix your problems:p .

As far as your Uncles TiVo is concerned, he either has already de-selected these channels or hasn't noticed the problem in the on screen guide.

As a rule most people with a TiVo never watch live TV, as they always have something pre-recorded to watch;) . so they never scroll through the channels as you were doing.

Peter.

I was wondering why I had 2 ABCs and ACCs. I have never bothered with the new channels and I don't surf up or down, just use the "live TV" guide. But I was wondering why I never got sci-fi in my channel list, but if I stick in a 132 on the remote I get it.

So if I wait a week or so will it fix it's self up? And will tivo give me a message that it has new channels?

As a side bar. KnoppMythTV latest release R5E50 worked for me with only a little pain. After 12 months of fighting with it, from R7B, I now have a working system to store all my converted .ty files from the tivo yipee!!!
Myth is not for the faint-hearted. TiVO took me all of 3 hours to get working, and that is with the audio mods. Compared with 12 months of the wife grumpling about the "other stupid PC" next to TV.

petestrash
06-02-2007, 03:16 PM
yes, you should get a lineup change soon, which will remove the extra channels. You will then see Sci-Fi in the 'live TV' guide.

The lineups are now owned by Ross, on the server so I cannot directly change them. But I have asked him to make the changes.
