Hey Guys!

We recently had a post (http://www.xpmediacentre.com.au/community/free-epg-support/15693-nztivo.html) in an Australian forum asking if we could provide nzTiVo data through our Free*EPG service. Is anyone here (aside from the fact this is a TiVo forum) interested in having nzTiVo guide data accessable via Windows Media Center or Vista or Xbox 360? :D

Our Free*EPG service is (obviously) a free EPG service which your Media Center application connects to directly!

Thanks,

Hi,
The NZ TiVo guide data is only for Tivo systems, we do not provide it for other systems and it cannot be used for other sources due to the format it is in. Sorry.

Hey jaidev!

Sorry, I should have expanded a little. We take the nzTiVo data and convert it to the Window Media Center (MCE) guide format which is then download by MCE users. nzTiVo win't need to support MCE users in any way!

Does nzTiVo have the same licensing agreement (Creative Commons) as ozTiVo? Is nzTiVo run/hosted by ozTiVo or vice-versa?

Thanks,

There is no connection between the NZ EPG and Australian EPG.

They are run by different people on different servers, using different software (except for the TiVo emulator).

We made the Australian EPG to be a community resource and built in xml output from the begining to allow others (Myth, MCE, etc) to participate.

NZTiVo is a closed system that has focused soley on TiVo's thus far.

Peter.

As Peter says, the nzTiVo data is completely seperate from OzTiVo hosted and run by nzTiVo, and no there is no Creative Commons Licence agreement for it.

This post has some sites on it that may help you..

Hey Guys!

Our basic question is "Can we use your data and push it through to Media Center users from our server?". We're not asking you guys to support Media Center machines or users in any way, shape or form ... Just to allow us to download the data available in it's native 'nzTiVo' protocol/format. :)

epgStream.net would simply just download the data from nzTiVo in it's native TiVo format, then convert it to a Media Center format.

Ideally your user base should increase and Media Center users would hopefully contribute to your community guide.

:) Simple!

Sorry , I have tried to make it quite clear that the NzTiVo guide system is closed. We are not prepared to make it available at this time for other formats or systems.

It's also a bit more complicated than just making available the Tivo guide slices for conversion, among other things, the author of the NZ system has placed limitations on use of the code focusing it on supporting TiVo users only (point 2).

#
# nzTiVo slicing system license limitations:
#
# 1. This software must not be used in those parts of the world where
# TiVo Inc. provides a subscription service.
# 2. This software must not be used for the provision of data to any
# PVR devices other than original or modified TiVo units.
# 3. This software must not be used for commercial purposes. You may
# not use this software to provide a "service" and charge for that
# service.

So as it stands NzTivo is not prepared to make available the native or raw guide format. Thanks for your enquiry.

Hey jaidev!

Thanks for eventually explaining why you are not willing to help.

Do have the contact information for the original author that defined those Terms and Conditions (anybody)? Obviously we'd like to chat with them regarding point #2 (points #1 and #3 are not an issue for us) and possibly an exemption or any further conditions.

Thanks,

I dont see what the problem is giving MCE the tivo guide. Its a win - win for both parties involved. Sure the MCE people 'gain more' than the TiVo people, but life is never fair, being so stingy is unwarranted.

With the influx of people using the programme guide (MCE people), there would [hopefully] be more people contributing to the programme guide - making it more reliable for both parties.

Tivo/MCE both do pretty much the same thing, just with different hardware.

With the influx of people using the programme guide (MCE people)

The nzTivo guys obviously put a lot of effort into providing a reliable guide, for which I am truely grateful, so rather than whining about them being "stingy" why not just appreciate it on your tivo and respect the imposed conditions?

Hi again, I am in direct contact with the author, it is them who brought this post to my attention. Sorry there will not be any exemptions or further discussions of this.

We have already put forward our stance and explanation, and wish that you respect them. Thanks.
I will be closing this thread now.
