I recently had a Mark2 tuner installed. I live in NZ, so it was not done by Darren. The tuner picks up PAL channels fine (well 2 anyway, as my frequencies are different to the setup on the image) and I will need to retune.
Anyway, the Tivo starts up and I get sound playing during the animation. I go to watch live TV and the video is fine, but there is no audio.
I have copied the palmod_config and palmod.o files across, and set the tuner type to be ALPS/samsung with the location of NZ (in actual fact the tuner type is listed as samsung).
But still no sound! - argh! Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
I did not replace the Micronas chip as I was resigned to the fact that in NZ with a US series 1 Tivo and a FTA tuner, mono is the best I can hope for.

In which case you DIDN'T have a "Mark 2" installed. You have done a plain mono ALPS tuner installation. "Mark 1" and "Mark 2" refer to the stereo decoder versions of the PAL tuner install only.
the Tivo starts up and I get sound playing during the animation.
You will. Anything pre-recorded (and that includes startup animation sound and key press sound effects) are from the hard disk through the MPEG decoder. You have only touched the front end of the TiVo which is way before even the MPEG encoder and hard disk.
I have copied the palmod_config and palmod.o files across
That would only have been required if you were using a pre-R1.3 (20050524) image, but should not make any difference.
and set the tuner type to be ALPS/samsung......

This does not matter. Both tuners use the same I2C command set.

You _did_ follow the directions for a mono sound install? That is, installing the sound cable from pin 21 of the ALPS tuner to two capacitors, one going to pin 56 and the other to pin 57 of the micronas chip?
The fact that you have a picture means you should be getting sound because in the mono install configuration the tuner itself is responsible for decoding the sound to a line-level audio output that can be fed directly into the micronas chip via the two capacitors.
You have either one of three scenarios:
1. not following the directions for a mono sound install (unlikely as the how to document spells it out rather well... i hope)
2. hooking up the sound wire or the capcitors incorrectly (check your work)
3. something amiss with palmod.o and palmod_config files, which is possible but shouldn't happen if you followed the instructions within the palmod update package correctly
Hope that helps
