Our TiVo came from Hobart and works fine in New Zealand, the hardware and software is identical, only configuration/setup is different. Do a "clear and delete all" and run through the 'Guided Setup' process again. You should be prompted as to which country (Australia or New Zealand) you are in, but if not see post#1 here.
It is normal for the TiVo to complain of a hardware error on first boot because the Serial/service number doesn't match, but it sorts itself out.
