Thread: Were TiVos sold with 1TB hard drives?

    Were TiVos sold with 1TB hard drives?

    I just modded a friends TiVo that was originally purchased from HVN.

    I was surprised to see it had a 1TB drive in it. They also had a 1TB expander drive. So two questions:

    Were they sold with 1TB drives and does the expander actually work to give them 2TB in total?

    Unfortunately the HDMI port didn't work, so I was unable to check it on my tv.

    Yes they were known as the TiVo XL

    The model numbers were as follows:

    663160 = 160GB
    663320 = 320GB
    663000 = 1TB

    But all motherboards are identical which is why you can put up to a 2TB into any TiVo.

    And yes a 1TB internal and 1TB external = 2TB .... although I don't suggest anyone go the route of adding an external anymore as they are known to be quite problematic.

    HDMI is also repairable but takes a fair amount of soldering skill.

    Thanks for the replies.

    Darren, can you elaborate on what needs to be changed for the HDMI fix?

    Usually the socket wasn't mounted correctly so a small gap exists between the board and the socket pins. Added to that the boards were done with lead free solder therefore over time the solder fractures.

    If you are brave enough give the socket a resolder and you will be good to go.
