Thought that might get your attention.

Does anyone know how to get hold of another sky decoder, I'm looking for one at the beach, that I can swap the card between here and there.

Alternately has anyone had experince with using a non-sky supplied decoder with the sky card? Possibly importing a decoder that works.

Any ideas?

You can't buy Sky Decoders. They remain the property of Sky TV.

I hope that wasn't a serious answer.

I'll try rewording the question if that helps....

Has anyone had any experince using a digital decoder ( not from SkyTV NZ ) with a Sky TV NZ card?

I can't buy a digital decoder from Sky ( as Zollymonsta pointed out: You can't buy Sky Decoders. They remain the property of Sky TV. ) So I would like to find a alternate that can be used.

I'm pretty sure PACE for example don't make digital decoders exclusivly for SKY TV NZ.

The problem with using third party boxes with sky has been because of the use of NDS. No NDS cams have been proven to work in NZ yet...

Though this one may have promise (need to register): ucascity.com/forums (http://www.ucascity.com/forums/showthread.php?t=767). You are best trolling the NZ Sat sites like hooktech (http://www.hooktech.co.nz/).

You do know you could signup with Sky for a 2nd decoder in your house for $25/m, and take that with you to the beach when you feel like it.

Thanks for that, looks promising, have you got any links that explain this any further. Inparticular, where to get a Dragon Card from...
Any links would be great...

Google is your friend.

Since I'm on the west coast of the mainland, I don't know much about your local island scene ;)

But a couple of general starters are:
austech.info (http://www.austech.info/index.php?)
satswiss links (http://www.satswiss.com/links.html)

$25 per month second box rental - f@%*& - I mean typical Sky rip off...although it does mean can record 2 things at once.

In the UK you do own your decoder. I have brought a Pace Decoder over with me intending to use for free to air (when the broadcasters drag their sorry ****s out of the mud and implement it - can anyone say HDTV??).

According to Hook Tech it SHOULD work - however as it has the UK frequencies built in you have to add channels manually and I could not get the free to air from satellite to work (but then again my patience threshold is low) as the box kept reporting no signal (even though I knew there was one).

The reason I point this out is UK boxes are available BUT I could not get FTA to work so who is to say an NZ SKY card will work any better - but you never know someone may have done this sucessfully.

You could of course have 2 Tivo. One you leave at home recording all the stuff while you are at the beach and the other you record a couple of weeks of you fave programmes before you go to the beach and take Tivo with you to watch them there...... :D
